Zimbabwe tour of New Zealand Jan-Feb 2011/12

I wonder why they didnt go with Derek de boorder, hes been the best domestic keeper over the last 2 seasons.

This season in the Plunket Shield:

Watling - 154 @ 77
van Wyk - 359 @ 72
Young - 81 @ 41
de Boorder - 160 @ 32
McGlashan - 160 @ 32
Hopkins - 109 @ 27

Based on that they've made the right call.

Last season:

de Boorder - 667 @ 67
van Wyk - 504 @ 63
Watling - 577 @ 52
Young - 534 @ 45
Hopkins - 278 @ 28
McGlashan - 251 @ 28

de Boorder was the best keeper-batsman last season though.

Right, I never noticed van wyks form this season, he flew under the radar a bit.

Don't you guys think its a little harsh to drop Young after just 5 tests though?? He did ok against Pakistan and Zimbabwe and no one really batted well on the greentops in Australia. I would have liked to see him given the rest of the summer personally. My prediction is that who ever they do pick will do nothing and de Boorder will get picked or they will go back to Young for our next series (following SA) whenever that is.

I'm not saying that it's not harsh, but when there's like four/five guys all at pretty much the same level, I think that it's the right time to give someone else ago. He's had five tests and he's been pretty average, so I'm quite happy to give someone else the final four tests of the summer and see what they can do.

Yeah, I can't say that I'm that disappointed to see Young go. His keeping's decent, but it's nothing special, so if he's not going to offer anything with the bat he has to go imo.

It should be good to see how the van Wyk vs Watling battle pans out over the next week, I'm pretty much on the fence atm. It's interesting that both of them are actually South Africans as well. :p

good to see New Zealand are taking the England route :p

I still have my doubts really, I suppose we'll see. Chances are whoever does come in will score a hundred on a flat road in Napier against Zimbabwe and people will say what a great selection it is. Maybe van Wyk is in the squad so he can give us a few pointers before the SA series lol

If I am New Zealand, I would not prepare a high class green pitch where there is nothing in for batsman. New Zealand batting has been a bit of worry off late and Zimbabwe have some good quick's who could on their own day damage the opponents

The four non-Test bowlers playing have all either been way too expensive, or in Arnel's case haven't taken any wickets. There are some good signs from our two Test bowlers playing though; Martin and Vettori.

Taylor really needs to get some runs tomorrow, he's probably our only Test player not in much form atm.

Great Innings from Chakabva he's got loads of talent, hopefully he can do it at test level. Our batting line-up is sorted now, it's now up to the bowlers to show what they've got tomorrow. :D

Sorry swirler but your name makes me think of a turd getting flushed!

^^ What is that have to do here :p

New Zealand XI is has half of the actual New Zealand side and seeing this Zimbabwe have performed well. First by reducing NZ XI to 272/7 and then recovering well from 210/8 to 328/9. Chakabva has played a good innings before going into the actual test :)

Sam Wells has been added to the squad for the Test. Rather strange considering he hasn't burst onto the domestic scene or anything, but I said the same thing about Bracewell and look what he did.
