I'm pretty sure Wells was a number 11 batsman until he left school and started working on his batting when he was 19. If he continues his solid form in the longer form I can see him as our fourth seamer, batting around 6 or 7.

When's Ryder back?

Do you guys really need him with Vettori? 4 seamers as the bowlers and Vettori looks good enough on the bowling front.

He's Vettori's backup I guess. People have been saying that he might play instead of Boult though which I think is a bit farfetched personally. It would help with the batting problems a bit but I'd much prefer to see Boult play.

Cricinfo seems to think van Wyk is going to open in the test though :/

That would be silly, he bowled well against us and is a left armer which is always useful if they are consistent which he seems to be.

That article is pretty fail. When I read it this morning they had a picture of Bracewell saying he was van Wyk as well. The person who wrote it probably has no idea about New Zealand cricket, and they were just basing what they were writing on the tour match.

Keegan Meth got injured in the nets, so I can't see him playing :( the Zimbabwe XI will most likely be:

Tino Mawoyo
Hamilton Masakadza
Brendan Taylor (c)
Tatenda Taibu (wk)
Malcolm Waller
Regis Chakabva
Elton Chigumbura
Shingi Masakadza
Ray Price
Kyle Jarvis
Brian Vitori

I'm glad the pitch isn't going to be flat...

So New Zealand have got a specialist Opener at Number 7, who also keeps part time, so naturally he'll keep wicket(!), while their only full time keeper opens the batting, which he isn't very good at. That's weird. Somebody needs to have the guts to tell McCullum to get back down the order with the gloves, or get out.

Great start from these two so far. I'm surprised that both captains would've bowled first, the pitch already seems to be flattening out.

Always risky bowling first, probably best just to play it safe if you are the away side and bat first.

Especially in Napier where there's been seven draws in nine tests.

Zimbabwe's first change bowler has pulled things back, but they really need at least one wicket heading into lunch.

Brownlie and Taylor might wanna swap spots. Brownlie is a much better Test cricketer than Taylor is.

I thought this was going to be a greentop lol, all I see is a typical Napier flat track where everyone boosts their batting averages and we end up with a draw.

----------

I only saw a few overs before lunch but some of that Zimbabwe bowling wasn't really up to standard, could a be a long day or two out in the field for them unfortunately.

Zimbabwe lost price to an injury before the match which is a shame. I like the balance of the side though, leaving Chigumbura out is a good idea we need the extra batsmen. I hope we get a wicket soon otherwise it's going to be a long time in the field, might be time for some spin.
