2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

I didn't see the England game so can't comment yet (i'll watch the repeat later on) But I have seen the Suarez bite...what an idiot! He shouldn't play any further part in this world cup. The evidence is there for everyone to see but I wonder if FIFA have the bottle to ban him?

It seems to only be the English media who are making a big deal of it. I have just been having an argument on Twitter with a Honduran (which, I must admit, is something I never thought I'd write) and he doesn't think it's a big deal at all!

1 point :D England the worst team in this WC !!

Firstly, that's statistically wrong, secondly England played some great stuff against Italy and deserved a draw at the very least if not a win, but didn't really turn up against Uruguay (even though Rooney could've scored two or three) and no one gave a damn against Costa Rica.

As for Suarez, I'm sorry - I don't care how good he is, he has to receive the maximum possible ban! He clearly got stuck into Chiellini's shoulder and for Suarez to say that this is 'one of the things that happens in football' is nothing short of disgraceful. This guy clearly has serious mental issues that need to be sorted out before he goes anywhere near a football match again. The only regret I have is that Chiellini didn't smash him right in his stupid bloody rabbit toothed mouth as he rightfully deserved it. But then again, Chiellini is a footballer, not some goddamn animal.

Gah. Best World Cup I've seen for years and both my teams are out - ruins the tournament to some extent when I have no one to cheer on.

England? Poor tonight against a team already through who didn't really care. Very promising against Italy, poor against Uruguay even though we should've been playing against ten men for a large period of the match and of course vs Costa Rica we were already out. To follow on from that, the guy who should've gone against my first team (England) ends up knocking out my second team (Italy). The refereeing at this tournament has been poor to say the least.

The evidence is there for everyone to see but I wonder if FIFA have the bottle to ban him?

Ha! I doubt it...

It seems pretty universally opposed on Twitter from what I've seen bar a few idiots calling everyone annoyed with the bite "anti-Liverpool"; but I've not seen any non-English tweets yet, so I don't know. I don't know if part of it is because most English-speaking countries have a major sport with lots more contact than Football (Rugby, or American Football in the States) where biting is a clear no-no and leads to at least straight red cards if not many match bans...

I keep telling all the Better Together people I know they ought to be supporting England.

One of my Facebook friends is English and an active supporter of the Yes campaign. Quite a strange Facebook feed, that one: goes from "Scotland would be better off independent, y'know" to "FOOTBALLS COMIN HOME"...

No - sacking the manager all the time is not the answer. Lee has it right - we need to get rid of the fear complex that surrounds the England team; easier said than done eh Lee? Although having said that, leaving Ashley Cole at home wasn't sensible.

Uruguay's Luis Suarez on clash with Italy's Giorgio Chiellini - 'These things happen' - ESPN FC

I totally get where Suarez is coming from, I mean we've all been there before, you're walking down the street or maybe even playing a match with your friends, and it just happens, you mistakenly bite the person beside you. These things happen.

Speaking of Twitter, I came across this great Twitter account:

Speechless.

No one Thinks Cost Rica will be Top Team on the Group before Would Cup starts... But Today they Get Promotion to Round 16 as a Topper from the Group D...

ENG is crap etc, but how do we judge Italy? Back 2 back world cup eliminations @ the 1st round (sandwiched between an impressive EUR0 2012 run of course) - at least this is ENG 1st W-Cup elimination in 50+ years.

I don't think Italy are in a crisis though, so I'm surprised Prandelli resigned. IMO they still have much good players, league in fine & the Juventus defensive contingent still the best in world football. Think they like a few EURO teams probably at the end are struggled to deal with the conditions.

After playing in the heat of Manaus, Italy usually fluid passing declined in every game.

nah its not that, the problem is the media :)

Again, people making excuses for the failings of this England team.

Do you think the Brazilian media are not putting pressure on their team?

Same goes for the Argies, or Germans, of course their media is putting them under pressure, it's football, it's life.

Difference is these teams can handle the pressure, we cannot.

I have no idea how to solve that but until we do we will be a long way from doing anything in a tournament
