2014 World Cup Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy

nah its not that, the problem is the media :)

The problem isn't the media. I've never known expectations in both the public and the press to be lower than they were this year. Yet the players didn't perform again.

Suarez needs to be banned, I don't know for how long but he needs to be banned. This is the World Cup where billions of young children would've been watching and sadly many of those children will re create this kind of thing in the school playgrounds and football fields.

I don't want to see him banned because a uruguay without suarez is pretty lame but I don't see that FIFA have a choice, 10 match ban is completely appropriate, if anything it should be more.

Anything less than a ban would be pussying out really ..

it will make the Uruguay attack feeble, but it needs to be done. For the greater good

I'm really curious as to how far FIFA will go with the imminent ban, their current disciplinary code sets a maximum ban of 24 games or two years, and the longest ban in World Cup history was apparently 8 games for Mauro Tassati in 1994 for breaking Luis Enrique's nose with an elbow.

"You could argue that technologically, we've actually traveled back in time without the monitors. FIFA president Sepp Blatter hinted at the use of instant replay in his speech to the FIFA congress two weeks ago. What was once anathema to Blatter, such as goal-line technology, is now a realistic possibility. Cynics will say he changes his mind because he's a demagogue who wants to get re-elected. He would say, paraphrasing Winston Churchill, that "when the facts change, my opinions change."

Four years ago, it was Frank Lampard's disallowed goal against Germany that prompted a Blatter rethink on goal-line technology. Might the apparent Suarez bite be the drop that pushes the FIFA supremo to revisit instant replay?"

Luis Suarez banned for four months from ALL football for bite on Giorgio Chiellini | Mail Online

A very harsh punishment imo. I mean, he committed the mistake for Uruguay, so a ban worth a year for Uruguay would have been sensible.. So why should LFC suffer for the initial part of the season? Why should they miss their best player for the first couple of months.

To me suarez should have banned for 1 year. How many times does he gets small period of ban and again he comes back again he does the same :facepalm

Damn, FIFA really did put the hammer down, I just find it hilarious how he's banned for more Liverpool games than Uruguay games.

Because he bit someone during a game of football: its exclusively his own fault and if Liverpool want someone to blame, they should blame him and not FIFA for the punishment that he gets. Using that logic: banning any player for any offence ever is "unfair" to someone! It isn't unprecedented; Cantona was (rightfully) banned for attacking a fan shouting abuse at him: and that affected both United and France. Was that "unfair" to the French national team?

Rumours are that Liverpool are considering his future as well: since the Ajax biting incident he's been banned for 36 League games and 9 internationals; and that's before this ban. That's without receiving any red cards as well! He's a good enough player but his attitude stinks and Liverpool are paying a fortune for a player that has been banned for pretty much a full season worth of games in four years: for such fine things as racism and biting. All of my Liverpool fan friends are saying that the club really should think of finding someone who may not be as good: but might actually treat themselves, their competitors and football with the respect that it deserves.

FSG are quite important in this. They don't want a player with his reputation when they're trying to raise Liverpool's profile in the US. I'd expect him to go to Spain.
