Was thinking of Watto, decided against it.

Didn't really decide against it, Watto's already been picked. Gayle's a good pick though, think I wrote an article about him a while back being an under-rated ODi player.

Javed Miandad is the greatest batsman Pakistan has ever produced. He is said to be one of the pioneer of ODI cricket with his aggressive mindset and style. Javed Miandad scored 1083 runs in 33 matches and 6 World Cup tournaments. He also holds the world record for the maximum number of consecutive half centuries in One Day Internationals- 9. In 233 matches (218 innings), Javed Miandad scored 7381 runs at an average of 41.70 with 8 centuries and 50 half centuries.

Was a toss up between Gayle, Miandad and $$@#$@$#$%^%^^%^$^%$#^%#^%^$. I chose Gayle.

Yeah Javed was a fairly obvious option for me too. Always great at managing a chase.

Go cricketman - before I have to go to bed :)

Sorry if I am too late, had some work I had to do

Shiv Chanderpaul

An extremely gifted batsman with an unorthodox technique, Shiv Chanderpaul is one of the modern greats of the West Indian cricket team. His consistency in recent years has been unmatched, and his dogged approach to batting makes him a boon to any ODI cricket team.

In a team full of stroke makers, Chanderpaul provides a solid base and resilience in the top order. He averages 41 in his 250+ match career, with 10 tons to his name. However, when he opens (a position he has occupied for the bulk of his career), his average shoots up to 44 and he scores at nearly 80runs/hundred balls

BTW, cricketman, update the first post to say that Stinky has already picked Aravinda De Silva in Round 8. He doesn't get a pick in round 8 because he mistakenly made 2 in round 7.

With my double pick it's time to get an opening pair.

Gordon Greenidge

Averaging almost 45, Gordon Greenidge was very reliable at the top of the innings. Greenidge went past 50 in 42 of his 127 ODI innings, only 3 batsmen have a better rate than Greenidge's 50+ every 3.02 innings (Viv Richards, Zaheer Abbas and edit: Graeme Smith) That's what I want from Gordon, a solid start and a chance to make 50+. Greenidge is not there to light up the scoreboard - that's his partner's job, but if the mood strikes he certainly is capable. It wasn't ODI cricket, but he once made a quick 200 v England at Lord's in a Test unleashing plenty of shots.

Had a distinctive pull shot where he often raised the front knee, and you'll often hear commentators, Mark Nicholas in particular, say something like 'that pull stroke had a touch of Gordon Greenidge about it'.

And to partner Gordon, I've picked someone a little more explosive:
Virender Sehwag

Everyone knows Viru's modus operandi, if the ball is there - it's going to be hit. So he'll provide the ignition at the top of the order. Sehwag is one of only 2 men in ODI cricket to have a career strike rate over 100 and his average is clearly better than the other guy and he's scored quite a few more centuries than the other guy too.

Also a handy part time bowler if the pitch is offering a bit of spin.

I'm liking the look of my side now:
1 Gordon Greenidge
2 Virender Sehwag
3
4 Sir Viv Richards
5 Inzamam-ul-Haq
6
7 Lance Klusener
8 Sir Richard Hadlee
9 Brett Lee
10 Joel Garner
11

YOu're up again Cricketman.

Mark Boucher

One of the better glovemen of this generation. He is easily the cleanest keeper I have seen - he seems to glide behind the stumps, is athletic, and has velcro for hands. He has taken a whopping 399 catches - 22 stumpings too - to make him one of the most successful wicket keepers ever.
No muck with the bat either, Boucher has played the finishers role very effectively for South Africa and has been critical to their ODI success over the years. 26 50s and a strike rate of 85 is very handy when trying to post those extra runs or chasing down an imposing total.

Mohammad Yousuf is Pakistan's second highest run scorer in ODI cricket. He has scored 9624 runs at an average of of 42 with 15 centuries and 64 half centuries in 282 matches (267 innings). He has the record of scoring the most runs without being dismissed in ODIs. He has also scored a 23-ball fifty and a 68-ball hundred in ODIs. He was top scorer during the successive years of 2002 and 2003 in the world in ODIs.

And yeah plenty of batsmen getting picked, might mean there's some bargain bowlers lying around.
