Australia Tour Of India 2012/13

Well I hate to say but Shikhar Dhawan would debut and Rahane would still miss out.

That's a good move indeed.I am liking this new selection panel. They might have made some sentimental decisions and all,but I do think they are much better than many previous selectors.

Rahane might not make the 11 though.I think he is only being considered as a middle order bat.Dhawan looks more probable to debut.

:lol Dude has no idea what he's talking about and makes his living trying to be controversial despite being wrong 95% of the time.

"I could name ? seven players whose Test futures are really under the pump," Craddock said.

Warner, Cowan, Hughes, Watson, Henriques, Maxwell and Doherty.

"The other problem is the troops outside the team are not that good."

Awesome stuff Craddock :clap

Robert Craddock says seven players in current Australia side are potentially playing for Test futures | News.com.au

I've read some of his pieces before but this is by far the worst of the lot. It's not even an article just a rant about players who we know are under pressure.

If Clarke is moving up the order that does suggest Hughes is on the way out unless Watson's wife is due. It's definitely time to give Khawaja a good run in the side to once and for all settle that debate. Bowling wise, with Bird gone I don't see any changes making a big difference.

Excellent example of a reading comprehension failure by Aalay...

Anyway, it's a bit rich that this series gets so much interest, no other minnows get anywhere near as much coverage.

Trollololol

I do know of one team that just lost to a second New Zealand XI and got bowled out for 167 today who get as much coverage as this :yes:yes. By the way, when was the last time NZ beat a test class opposition at home other than Pakistan? I don`t remember having seen them beat anyone at home either for a while now. Was thrilled to see them do well in Aus, SL and now today at home against England. Bit offthread but yeah :p

I've mainly seen him on The Back Page when I used to catch it on Fox. Pretty much doesn't stop talking about whatever the topic is and aggravates the hell out of me.

Probably should've posted it in the England thread where he can't pretend he didn't read it :spy

Is there something wrong with that? Ffs, the guy doesn't even open at First Class level, why anyone would want him opening at Test level is just beyond me. :facepalm

Watch him go on to debut as an opener just because I've said that. :rolleyes

To be honest,I do think it is logical to not pick Rahane if we are looking for an opener. It would have been logical to pick him for No.6 though.

Sir Jadeja is not going anywhere so,Rahane has to wait(again).

But as you said,he might open after all.Who knows?:rolleyes

Rahane will get his debut one way or another, might just have to wait(again) till the South Africa tour though...

Or we choose to play some sort of 4 man (medium) pace attack and thus have to use Sir as a spinning all-rounder in what will be the most important match of that whole tour... :p

Good move to drop Sehwag but I think the decision came very late. 2 tests for a new opener before he faces Steyn and Co. That will not be easy. Rahane deserves first go but seectors see him as a middle order batsman so Shikhar Dhawan is likely to come in as an opener alongside Murli "mightwatchman" Vijay. Dhoni's move of picking Ravindra Jadeja might work in India but he will be EXPOSED against South Africa. You have to bring Rahane at no 6 for that tour because he is a proper batsman who can tackle a good bowling attack.

Dhawan
Vijay
Pujara
Sachin
Kohli
Dhoni
Rahane
Ashwin
B.Kumar
Zaheer
Umesh Yadav

Backup: Manoj Tiwary, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha, Ojha, Sreesanth/ PK, Varun Aaron

This looks like the best team we can take to South Africa. I hope Varun Aaron gets fit before that series.

And If Sehwag is really serious about his carrer, he should definitely try doing this. He will be ideally prepared for South Africa if he does get a contract.

Sehwag must try and get a county contract - The Times of India

Why do the Indian selectors and some fans consider Rahane a middle order batsman when he bats at 3 in FC with a 62 average, has opened on occasion and opens in one dayers as far as I can tell?

I know the selectors said he was picked for the middle order when the squad was announced.

Rahane is a one down batsman and I can't understand why selectors forced him to start his career as an opener in ODI and T20. Plus Rahane averages 62 in FC and selectors started picking him for T20 and ODI's which is also weird. Now we won't mess around with our middle order for him which includes Pujara@ 3, Sachin@ 4, Kohli@ 5 and we have Vijay as an opener. So either he needs to open or play at no 6 just before Dhoni. I want him to play at no 6 replacing Jadeja because I don't see Jadeja surviving against Steyn and Co.

I'm more or less convinced that it's Rahane's call, chat with the selectors, that sort of thing...

I've said this before and I'll say it again, the way our teams are setup right now, you basically get into the Test team by doing well for the limited overs side and that's really why Rohit Sharma has never broken into the Test side.

88 ODIs he's plucked through with those numbers btw and ofc, 0 Tests. :facepalm

Obviously the selection of Pujara totally goes against all this, but that's more the exception than the rule.
