Australia Tour Of India 2012/13

I am sure BK (not Burger King; Bhuvi Kumar:p) is faster than PK (not Aamir Khan's new film; Praveen Kumar:D) on average by at least 6-8 mph. BK bowls in the mid 130's often enough. PK is mostly 125-128'ish.

Personal opinion - I am not a big fan of Praveen because of the very lazy attitude that he displays on the field (even while bowling). On the contrary, Bhuvi is an energetic, lively guy on the field and inspires a lot more confidence. And now with Bhuvi around, there is no need for Praveen.

Lazy attitude? Don't you remember the 4-0 in England? Alongside Dravid, he was the only player who looked even remotely bothered.

Personally, I don't understand the non-selection of PK. If Dhoni is willing to select Bhuvneshwar, who is no faster than PK, then why not PK, who has a greater mastery of swing bowling. He has better control of his swing in that he can swing it equally well both ways. He is also more experienced.

BK is a bit faster than PK. BK relies more on the one that comes into the right handers and bowls the one that goes away from them in between just to keep batsman in check, Praveen however can swing equally well both ways. I still think that BK has more control than PK because PK sometimes tries a bit too much with his variation where BK knows his limitations and sticks with it. However, I still think both of them are very good bowlers and can be very lethal if the conditions are in their favour. Praveen is banned currently so he is not available for selection.

If we have to blood in a raw pacer into the side? Why not Ishwar Pandey, Basant Mohanty or even Suraj Yadav ? All these players have taken a lot of wickets for more than 1 season and are currently in form.

What exactly is a "raw pacer"? It's surely not a fast bowler because all the guys you mention are rather slow(according to Cricinfo)...

By definition of 'raw player' is inexperienced (at the highest level), talented and fresh (young?, energetic?). So, for me, a 'raw pacer' is not about bowling at 'raw pace'. :p

Love that India are discussing their line-up more than the Aussies :p Harbhajan sucks, Ishant sucks, Sehwag sucks. Bring in Ojha, Rahane and play 10.

As for the Aussies, compiling the suggestions so far, we should see Cowan dropped, Warner dropped, Hughes dropped, Watson open or dropped, Clarke to bat at 3 or 4, Wade dropped, Henriques shouldn't be there in the first place and we should consider whether we play a 4 man pace attack or 2+ spinners.

So, if we were selectors we'd be looking at some tough decisions and a few plane tickets with something like this:

1. Watson
2. Khawaja? Cosgrove? Chris Rogers lol?
3. Marsh? Burns?
4. Clarke
5. Bailey? Voges?
6. Smith? Rohrer?
7. Haddin
8. O'Keefe
9. Siddle/Pattinson/Starc
10. Lyon
11. Doherty

For me, using the squad selected, the only changes I might make to the current top 7 would be maybe Khawaja in for Hughes and Henriques could switch with Wade.

As for the bowlers, Pattinson and Lyon should be there for the 3rd test.

Smith would make for some deep batting, gun in the field and maybe get a spin bonus, maybe pile.

Siddle's done nothing, yet I don't think anyone's suggested dropping him, so get rid of him while we're at it.

So with two spots left, fight to the death - Doherty vs. Maxwell and Starc vs. Johnson.

Ben Rohrer in the test team, you gotta be kidding me.

I agree, but that's where we're headed if we drop everyone except for Clarke.

Don't think Cowan has done too much wrong. You have way too many spinners in the side. If I were to chose the line-up, it would be:

Warner
Watson/Rogers
Cowan
Cosgrove
Clarke
Bailey
Haddin

I'm one of Cowan's biggest supporters, the first half of my post was other people's suggestions combined ;)

Maybe Cowan could move down the order? He could stick it out with Clarke and defend every ball to his desire.

He could potentially chuck a Faf. Shove Watson to open and bring in Khawaja for Hughes. I hate to bat Clarke at 3 but it's worth a try.

And what wrong has Cowan done to get dropped? If you really want to drop someone, it should be Warner. Cowan has at least shown some fight but Warner has looked very ordinary. Even in the first inning of the first test where he made 58, he was looking very scratchy and was given at least 3 lives to get there. I am pretty sure Hughes is going to get dropped. Bring someone like Khawaja or even Smith who is better player of spin. Seriously, you want to drop Watson? He is your second most experienced batsman. How can you drop him? However, I do agree that he needs to open the batting. Dropping Henriqes already? He was the only Australian batsman apat from Clarke who looked confortable in the first test match. In the second test, I thought he was a bit unlucky. He got a beauty in the first inning from RJ and got run out in the second inning. You have to give him more chances if you are thinking about him as a long term player because he has shown sign that he can tackle spin. Why do you want to go back to Haddin? Yes, Wade has been scratchy behind the stumps but at least he will learn from those mistakes. So when he is here next time, he will be more comfortable. If you are going to pick Haddin, he will do good for this series but he is not going to come back here as he already 35. So you have to go back to Wade unless there is any other WK in your domestic circuit. Tim Paine anyone?

In the bowling, It does not really matter who will you choose as your spinner because they are all crap. However, I still would go with Lyon and Smith combo. If you see my post after the first test match, I did say that you have to drop Siddle because (1) he does not get any swing or reverse swing, (2) He has dropped down on pace horribly. You have to bring Mitchell Johnson in because he has played in India before with more success than any of your current bowler.

So basically, by looking at your current squad, this should be the team for the 3rd test.

Cowan
Watson
Khawaja
Clarke
Smith
Wade
Henrques
Maxwell/ Doherty
Johnson
Pattinson
Lyon

Long batting lineup with 7 bowling options.

----------

I am pretty sure India's squad will be unchanged unless the selectors are really looking to build a team for South Africa.

Australia tour of India 2012-13 : Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith will be considered - Mickey Arthur | Cricket News | India v Australia | ESPN Cricinfo

Wow, the logic defying statements from them continues. How can arthur claim this is best available batsmen available to Australia when they left George Bailey home??

Plus they have not considered further experience like Chris Rogers & shot down the chance of considering Brad Hodge when he hinted of a first-class comeback.

If Steve Smith seriously plays it will mean the selectors would have chosen all the idiot choices in Maxwell & Doherty for a test place. They are going a very good job of ensuring Australia suffers it first whitewash since that legendary S Africa team beat team 4-0 in 1969/70.:facepalm

Steve Smith @ # 5 in a test match?. That is not a long batting line-up, that is a short batting line-up that ends @ # 4.

No 7 "proper" bowling options exists in such a horrific line-up either. Its 3 proper bowlers in Pattinson, Johnson, Lyon. 1 trash spinner in Doherty. Two crap pits a pieces test players in Smith & Maxwell attempting to roll over their arms. And Henriques as bowler who can just block and end.

Sorry sir but this is a ridiculous team.

Based on the bones left in this squad, given that the selectors have obviously not taken the drastic option to fly over George Bailey & Chris Rogers to give the batting some semblance of solidity. The best AUS XI for the next test would be:

Warner
Cowan
Watson
Clarke
Khawaja
Wade
Henriques
Johnson
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon

Makes no sense changing the opening partnership or moving Watson from # 3 at this stage. There is nothing better in the squad currently, so they have to war for the next two test with such a formation. Either they fail or come good. Simple.

If Clarke wants to come up the order, thats fine. But only middle-order change should be to pick Khawaja for Hughes. Hughes has looked out of place sadly. Khwaja is supposedly the next best young batsman in AUS - so just give him a chance. He will either sink or swin.

3 fast bowlers MUST PLAY. That is AUS only chance to get 20 wickets, it defies logic after Doherty's performance to contemplate playing him a 2-man spin attack. Lyon is the only spinner that should play, since he's the only somewhat decent one AUS have. He either gets better from his Chennai efforts or gets smashed in next two tests.

Johnson should get a chance over Starc. I reckon Starc would be able to step up from his 1st test efforts, but Johnson has some decent experience in such conditions & they might as well play him.

This is still very likely to lose both tests, but its would be the best available XI. Playing Doherty, Maxwell, Smith in the next two tests would be the epitome of foolishness.
