Cricket in America

Exactly, it will take fast bowling and big hitting from personalities the Americans can relate to. Like Chris Gayle and Shaun Tait. Not Harbhajan Singh, haha the sight of him alone would turn everyone off cricket.

my point exactly. Don't take my knowledge and love of the game as an example of the average Americans interest. They are usually clueless and for some reason unnecessarily hostile towards it (despite not knowing anything about it)

That's why the best chance to grow interest will be through relatable Western style athletes.

fast bowling, fast bowling and fast bowling. What attracts most I show cricket to is that you can bowl bouncers and hurt the batsmen legally. They love it, the bouncer videos on cricket are the first thing I show to someone who does not know of the sport. The whole "cricket is for pussies" stereotype goes away very quickly

I feel like we went over these stuff few times before. In this thread, and that other thread opened by you. lol

Then 1 could argue bringing Pak and Ind because you know why. And I am all against it. I need 2 teams that are athletic, not bunch of chuby fools or beardy beast. 2 teams that can create a good impression... even though there wont be that many American-Americans

Yes and I hate to admit it but having Pakistan would not be the best way to kick start popularity for the sport among Americans.

Id say the best bet would be Australia, their culture is fairly popular here. At least compared to the other countries that play cricket.

India because it would garner media attention and there is a substantial Indian population here.

India vs a non-subcontinent nation would be the best.

Aus vs Windies

Ind vs Windies

Windies vs Aus

I say Windies simply because of the West Indian population in Flordia and because even Americans know about the West Indies (we just call it the Caribbean).

I hope this is a huge success here, would love to see Chirs Gayle on cribs and at the red carpet. I think he is the perfect individual to grab American attention. A 40 ball 100 from the coolest guy in world cricket.

Their playing at Central Broward Regional Park. That might be the new name for it. Its a very small but brand new facility designed specifically for cricket. Also the only ICC approved venue in the United States for International limited overs cricket.

Here are some pictures. Capacity is 5000 permanent seats which can be expanded up to 20,000.

There were more. I remember making fun of Moyo.

Depends on who you are trying to attract? If you are trying to attract natural born Americans then that will never work. They have no idea what IPL is and the razzmatazz is too cheesy and easy to make fun off. If you just want to get the expat population involved then maybe, but that is not a very marketable demographic.

Having "International" matches will be the only way to get natural born Americans involved. I feel safe in saying they don't give a ████ about Chennai vs Western Australia

Americans flock away from almost all kinds of international sport, the only exceptions are the olympics and the World Cup soccer. That too only because America dominates in the Olympics and most only follow the WC until the US gets knocked out. Franchise cricket is the way to go IMO.

Last year I watched that NZ vs AUS T20 match with few upstairs people and few of my baseball friends. I had it dvr-ed. They came over. And so I kinda made them watch it. They did enjoy, so I'd hoped. They liked the idea of having stump-cams. And they thought it was very "cheap" move from McCullum to do that (scoop). I can see why. Suggested that they should just call it "extra-inn." instead of "super-over. :rolleyes" They made fun of the spinners, after seeing Tait and Nannes.

Impressed by bare-hand fielding, but they thought it was stupid of them. 'If they can wear a flinging grill helmet, why not use gloves to field too'

I was like, this was a bad idea. It was good game, but I couldn't enjoy it, wasted all the time explaining ████

So my point is, who is gonna force em to watch it? This gotta be on tv. They gotta hype it up. (who is gonna do that with Lock gone??) It won't matter if they show free stream on espn3, and on youtube (that will only bring out the regular fans not new ones). Just like how I wouldn't watch rugby/soccer on ESPN3, even though it's always there.

I think having a couple of franchises packed with international players will be better than having a New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka game. And it could lead nicely in to stoking some interest in following the actual league(s) the franchises are involved in if interest is generated--compared with no follow-up league if it were just a one-off international series.

The New Deal forming Cricket Holding America which has 31% Stake of USACA, 41% of Poddar's & 28% of NZC is really exciting. According to deal USACA also gets license fee of 2 Million $ per year. That means in first year USACA gets 5 Million$. Also NZC will also get a certain amount of money ensuring they don have a loss. All the investment has been from Poddar's and they are known to be smart business men.
THey are supposed to have loss for first 2 years but then start earning out of it. I am sure this is Historic, and cricket in next 5 years will pick up the popularity level of Football (Soccer). To rival Baseball is like impossible. Maybe over 30 years it may, but who knows

Don't be ridiculous. Soccer is a UIL high school sport here, just about every single highschool has a Title 9 UIL soccer team (girls and boys) it's also an NCAA sport and we have MLS.

Cricket is no way near challenging soccer as Americas new sport, also have to take into account our massive HIspanic population and their love for soccer.

In 5 years I'd have my money on USACA going belly up and being suspended by the ICC again, except this time being millions of dollars in debt.

Ryan C in for the US team. Finally an ex/U-19 player in the national team.

met him a few times in Houston tournaments. Pretty good bat and his spin bowling is quick.

He did ok in the u19 in NZ, a bit young for the national side though. Hope he does well

Anyone watched the new Documentary on American Cricket? Lock was right, we don't have an off season here. Never thought about it!

Yeah watched it. Really liked it, although it was a bit depressing to see how pathetic cricket looks here in America even though it is such an awesome sport.

Robin Singh to coach USA. Good stuff.
