Cricket in America

NZ won't rest players. We have a light cricketing year. Anyone fully fit and available will play. It's after the T20 World Cup so the squad will probably be pretty much the same.

Cool, I will deffo be supporting NZ. Its only a 4 hour flight from the West Indies so jet lag wont be an issue either :)

This is always good to see, probably will never make it big but at least it will be registering in America. How did the League game go down when the Kangaroos played America?

Thats rugby from what I gather? I could not tell you, I have no interest in rugby and neither do most people. It is played a lot at college level here but I don't think too many watch professional rugby.

Honestly cricket has more of a chance to make it big in the US than rugby. Interest in baseball is waning, interest in American football is going through the roof.

Rugby League which probably has a smaller market although I believe you guys have a similar league to us. I don't really mind which of the two codes make it, just would be awesome to have one of my sports I like make it in the US. Where exactly is Soccer in the US market? It sounds like a sport played in college but doesn't go much further at the top level.

Soccer is very competitive at high school and college level. Id dare say some of our younger talents (high school) are comparable to Europeans. Full scholarships to college are very common for soccer. This has made the high school game very competitive.

The problem lies with soccer after college. Our professional league is the MLS. It recieves dismal TV ratings (the few times its shown on ESPN2, a cable channel) and poor crowds. The players are not very highly paid and the league is barely surviving. Any decent American soccer player tries to leave for Europe after high school. However since this is a huge risk and change most kids either play for until college and quit or switch to American football or baseball if their very talented athetles and have a shot at going pro.

They almost beat Brazil in the Confederations cup final

No idea what that is. I know our rugby team is not bad, but its still not popular. I still don't know the rules and I am much more into foreign sports than the average American.

Rugby is pretty popular at our school, 80% of the football players plays Rugby for school. Soccer isnt that bad either.

for us its Football, Soccer/Basketball, Baseball...then everything else

Us meaning highschool students right? Cause that was my entire point. Once people who are good athletes start thinking about what they will play in college then soccer starts to drop out, cause the chance of going pro is slim and the chance of making money like the other sports is virtually 0.

Hmm... I'd be in for sure if India was playing. Right now its probably 50-50 for me being interested to go. Depends on the scheduling. I'd definitely be going to NY if they end up doing the CL there. Got a few friends in NY who I haven't caught up with in ages, too.

All I know ablout MLS is David Beckham plays for LA Galaxy.
