Alright, back from vacation and had some play time with the new CA update. Played in the nets for about an hour and overall it looks fantastic. The control system feels natural and is a major step forward for cricket-gaming. I don't see any new cricket game released now with the older controls, so I would say BigAnt have set the precedent and taken cricket gaming to the next level and I thank them for that. I have had some awesome moments like when, for example, I tried to play a scoop which was mis-timed and the ball went in third-man's direction instead of fine-leg.
If I were to point out one thing that was little disappointing it's the fact that the bumpers and triggers are not related i.e. using triggers with bumpers overrides the triggers. This makes it impossible to play some shots in the game like in case of sweep shot:
a. Slog Sweep (which could have worked with LT+LB)
b. Paddle Sweep (RT+LB)
c. Powerful Sweep along the ground (LT+RT+LB)
Similarly, it is impossible to dance down the wicket and defend or have any control over the shot once you have used the advance bumper (RB). Now I understand that using 5 buttons (as explained in the powerful sweep example above) might be difficult for some (i.e. Left Stick for foot-work + Right Stick for Shot + LT + RT + LB), but I tried using those 5 buttons on my Xbox controller and it should be possible to do that. Implementing this would add the following possibilities which are impossible to execute in this version of DBC:
1. Advance down the wicket and defend
2. Advance down the wicket and play along the ground to long-on/long-off
3. Advance down the wicket and chip over the in-field
4. Slog Sweep
5. Powerful sweep along the ground
6. Paddle sweep (or soft-tapping a ball towards short fine-leg)
7. Reverse sweep in the air
8. Reverse sweep along the ground
9. Paddle reverse sweep (is there a term like that?)
10. Aerial Scoop
11. Attempting a scoop along the ground
Would make the game even more awesome
