Emerging Players Tournament 2009 (Aus, NZ, SA, IND)

I've seen good, established players sent to the EPT, don't get me wrong, more than one team has used it to groom players for immediate selection. It's not a tournament of such importance that you accuse a board of cheating when they send older players. The problem I see is that the BCCI use it in lieu of sending India A out to play against good opponents. The team originally sent from India was provided by Karnataka, utilising some of the players who passed through the National Cricket Academy at Bangalore. The last Karnataka side was sent in 2007, which is also the last time India A toured anywhere.

does anyone have any news about the so called fastest bowler in the world Atul Sharma??

There is no Atul Sharma.

I'm really looking forward to this mini tournament. Looking forward to seeing how some of our young guys go, it should be good.

Anyone know where I can get live updates of these games, cricinfo doesn't look as though they are doing it.

1st T20 game: Ais Vs India

AIS batted first and made 101-7 of 20 overs. Tom Cooper was the only batsmen to stand up though, he made a very nice 63 of 57.

India were to strong for them though, getting to the target in just 18 overs.

Howsie added 6 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...

NZ Warm up Games

AIS 140/6 (Southee 1/16); NZ 100/8, (Kitchen 51)

The second game was a 40-over match against a New Delhi Under-22 side currently touring Australia. New Zealand batted first and scored consistently through their overs to total 179. The NZ bowlers backed up the batting effort by picking up regular wickets, dismissing the opposition for 120.

The team then faced AIS in another Twenty20 match. Batting first NZ lost early wickets but Kane Williamson and Reece Young helped the side recover to a competitive total of 139. Tight bowling maintained pressure on the AIS batsmen who despite losing only three wickets were restricted to 134 ? a good win for New Zealand

NZ Emerging Players v AIS, 16 July, Lindwall Oval (Twenty20)
NZ 139/9 (Fulton 20, Williamson 25, Young 42*); AIS 134/3

The final warmup game was a 45-over match against the New Delhi side. NZ put on a strong batting performance with the top order all scoring well, and the side amassing a total of 231. The chase was well beyond the New Delhi side, and with good bowling from Southee and Shaw they lost nine wickets in reaching 133.

NZ Emerging Players v New Delhi Under-22, 17 July, Sandgate Oval (45-overs)
NZ 231/8 (Watling 39, Raval 54, Fulton 32, Kitchen 24, de Grandhomme 18*); New Delhi U-22 133/9 (Southee 4/31, Shaw 3/12)

The last game there was a 45 over game and apparently Tim Southee was bowling pretty quickly, often hitting the Young Indian batsmen.

New Zealand lost by six wickets but Cricket Australia haven't loaded up the scorecard yet.

Dam poor coverage of this so far. Anyway good to see Cooper making runs, T20 was the format he didn't go so well in last season but always was a matter of time before he broke through.

Cricket: Emerging players pipped by South Africa | CRICKET News

New Zealand suffered a six-wicket defeat off the penultimate delivery against South Africa in their emerging players quadrangular cricket tournament opener in Brisbane.

New Zealand Emerging Players posted 129 for eight, batting first in the Twenty20 match, before South Africa EP reached their target for the loss of four wickets in the 20th over.

The New Zealand side made a solid start through topscorer Colin de Grandhomme, who scored 49 off 34 balls, while BJ Watling scored a quickfire 29 and Reece Young an unbeaten 26 off 14.

Test paceman Tim Southee was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, taking two for 25 off four overs.

In the day's other match, India EP beat the Australian Insitute of Sport by six wickets, chasing just 102 to win.

New Zealand EP face India EP in a 50-over match on Tuesday

Southee seems to be bowling really well over there.

Scorecard for todays game:

Don't like the look of that batting order lol, Southee in front of Raval and Worker. It's only T20, let them face some of these fast men. Hopefully Williamson bats at four in the OD games, Kitchen should be at five.

Also good to see Southee take wickets with the new ball.

why on earth is ashwin batting above tiwary????i hope tiwary get to bat in the top 4

Australia are 3-158 after 30 overs. Tim Southee picked up two early wickets in Tom Cooper and Mitchell Marsh. Good to see Nethula bowling well, he's picked up a wicket and his RPO is pretty good.

Oh and good news NZ fans, our back-up Test keeper has already missed a couple of chances :sarcasm

Over 8.6: Southee to Marsh, no run, OUT, playing across the line, beaten by pace

Over 32.1: Wagner to Wade, no run, bouncer, words exchanged again with these two

Wagner seems to be bowling with some heat to.

Wagner gets his man:

2009-07-21 11:28

2009-07-21 11:26

Gutted Cooper got out so early, Quinley went alright just needs to convert one of this starts into a 100. Good performance by Steven Smith. Didn't know Tait was in the squad, looks like the selectors want him for the ODIs in England.

Great start for AIS, Duval the chief destoryer taking out the gun Williamson and another guy. George has started well.
