England in Sri Lanka

We give them 6 games and then start moaning about them. Putting them under immense pressure, so its no wonder they fail. Everyone gets ducks nobody seems bothered if an opener gets one, they just say "Oh well, new ball and all, he'll be ok next time" but woe betide a wicketkeeper should bag one, he'll be out on his ass.

Good ball from Fernando, a bit of reverse in and it deceived Prior. We gave Jones 30 tests why not give Prior the same? He's as talented if not more so.

I wasn't starting anything!

For some reason, I don't see Panesar having the same kind of impact on the pitch. Maybe it's my inner pessimism or my knowledge of the fact that we lack killer instict, but I can see us throwing this game away tomorrow.

But I digress, Collingwood will score a hundred and we'll bowl them out for 150 again.

I didn't mean you started anything. I was telling everyone else to not go their.

We should give him enough time to find out whether or not he is going to be consistant enough at this level with bat and gloves and this series will be difficult for him in both departments. We need him to bat well because of our long tail in this series.

He still average pretty much 40. Nobody's calling for Cook to be thrown out of the team after his duck. Matty didnt put a foot wrong behind the stumps, kept brilliantly to Hoggard. Anyone that is calling for him to be dropped is an idiot.

I'm not saying we should drop him, I'm just musing on the fact that English keepers lose their ability to bat in record time.

I thought it was good planning on Sri Lanka's part.Prior seems to flick through the mid wicket region quite a lot and they've seen this so they put a man catching, good cricket.

I'd keep Prior but then if we're going to persist with him in tests I don't see why we didn't do so in the ODI's. Not the best end to the day from us but if the rain stops tomorrow and we battle to anywhere past 250 we can win this. This is where Broad would come in useful (had to get it in, I'm not biased anymore he doesn't play for us :p)

What's bad about leaving out an unfit, injury prone and out of form bowler?
Our fastest bowler who is world class on his day and managed to take 15 or so wickets in two first class games when he admitted he wasn't quite there yet? I'd take that any day over Sidebottom, who hasn't done enough to guarentee a Test place in my view.
Sachin Tendulkar?
Don't get me wrong, in helpful conditions where it swings a lot and seams he can do the business, but he doesn't have the class of a Hoggard to deliver on other surfaces. Besides which he didn't even get Tendulkar out in the Test Series so I doubt he was too concerned about Sidebottom's threat.

He was injured for the Sri Lanka series if that is what you're referring too.

Monty should have some talks with Jayasuriya abt how to go abt bowling on these pitches. He will definately trouble Sri Lanka players without it even also. Sri Lankan batsmen are not so gr8 against spin either. Only Sangakara and Jayawardena can play spin well. Indian spinners have troubled them for very long time.

It wasn't directed at you Colin, stop attention seeking ;)

Who has had one world class game for England since the Ashes? Old Trafford 2006, can't think of anything else since. Those games in South Africa were nothing more than warm ups, the standard of domestic cricket there is poor. Sidebottom was our best bowler in Sri Lanka, averaged 13 in the ODIs, he's consistent and if he and Hoggard form a partnership, we could destroy top orders in no time. You just can't risk an injury prone bowler in a place like Sri Lanka imo, though I'd have actually gone for Broad over Anderson.

Why hurry Harmy back in side. Vaughn was given his time by ECB to prove his fitness and same should be done with Harmy and Freddie.

He did well in the one dayers and deserved a chance to play out there. The conditions were helpful on the first day it just wasn't his day. It's about time us English fans backed the players more and gave them a chance instead of criticising them at every chance we get.

If Hoggard wasn't playing, I'd be all for him being given a go, but he's too similar or a very poor mans Hoggard. What has Sidebottom actually done to prove his class? Knocked over the West Indies at Headingley in April/May which are normally very bowler friendly and then one innings against India. I'm not just saying Harmison, I think he's the best option in that squad, but I think we'll miss a tall bowler a la Tremlett if not Harmison in this series. Sidebottom will not run through sides like Sri Lanka away from home. In New Zealand, he'll probably do well, but not the here and now.

:hpraise:hpraise congrats Murli for breaking the recod, you are a joy to watch. congrats.:hpraise

Sidebottom's been probably England's best pace bowler since his come back into the side.

Harmison is the past, why didn't they bring Tremlett? He has a better FC average then Harmison and bowled well against India. I'd be molding him into the Harmison trait.

I'm glad England played Anderson over Broad as I think debuting a 21 year old pace bowler in the subcontient is a recipe for diaster. I'd debut him in Tests in the next English summer.

congratz murali for breaking the record.. u r a god :hpraise:hpraise

now this record will never be broken :D
