Crouch feels Barrow doesn't deserve immediate spot in lineup!
"He should fight for it like I had too"

The West Indian-England allrounder Ryan Crouch feels that, although Barrow's return to Test cricket is good for England and cricket as a whole, he doesn't deserve an immediate spot in the lineup for the second test.
'I've played 3 games and have attended net sessions every day to encourage the selectors to choose me for the second test, and he expects to just make a press release and make the lineup?? It doesn't work that way. He needs to convince the selectors that he deserves his spot, legend or not."

Lee Payne in good form with minor county success

Playing minor counties cricket in preparation for tomorrow's second test against Sri Lanka, bowler Lee Payne enjoyed taking four wickets for Norfolk against Hertfordshire at Manor Park.

"I only bowled eleven overs because I was trying to conserve myself. I didn't feel I was at my best in London and I want to impress the coach in Birmingham. That is, of course, if I am selected" he said.

When asked why he decided to play for Norfolk instead of his major county Kent, he said he wanted to stay at home in between tests.

"I live about a mile from Manor Park and I wanted to live at home for the series. It is important to me to get me going" said the prodigy.

Hampshire and Kent draw

Two players looking to be called up for the second test starred in this game for Hampshire as Upul Tharanga and Nic Davies look to be picked for the 2nd test starting this Tuesday.

The game looked being a draw just before the game even started. The pitch was dead and was a bowlers nightmare. Kent won the toss and batted first.
They reached 368 all out with veteran fast bowler Chris Tremlett taking 4-88 and England hopeful Nic Davies taking 4-101.
Hampshire then batted and they batted incredibly well.
They reached 564-6 dec, here is their scorecard:

M.Wood c.O'Brien b.Dixon 75 (139)
U.Tharanga b.Joseph 163 (259)
R.Key c.Jones b.Khan 77 (159)
K.Pietersen b.Joseph 0 (2)
M.Goodward b.Khan 8 (19)
N.Davies b.Logan 96 (191)
C.White not out 105 (166)

Total: 564-6 dec.

Arguably Kent missed their star bowler Lee Payne but a brilliant century from Upul Tharanga showed why he should be picked for the Sri Lankan team. Nic Davies played brilliantly for his knock of 96 and was unlucky to miss out on a well deserved century.
"I feel in top condition and in brilliant form." He went on to say "I felt the adrenaline running through me as I struck plenty of boundaries. I felt it with the ball as well with my four wickets in the first innings."
Ex-England batsman Rob Key said "Nic is a world class player and deserves to be in the England team. He scores runs and takes wickets. The perfect player. He was unlucky to get no wickets in the second innings as there were plenty of drops."
In Kent's second innings the game was drawn. Nic Davies got figures of 38 overs, 0-145. As Mr.Key said he was very unlucky not to have a wicket, there were 5 dropped chances by both slip and by wicketkeeper Tony Frost.
So the end of a brilliant match. Now Nic Davies and Upul Tharanga can only wait until the selection.
"I feel I have done everything I can and proved my abilities to the full. I hope Matthew sees me as a good player worthy of a starting place. I respect him very much. He was my idol when he was playing and he knows the game so I respect his decision."

Barrow has hit back to those who have critised him and stressed he may be called a "legend" but he understand no player can waltz back into a team after a innings win.

Barrow also praised fellow Englishman Jack Teague saying that his statement has been delayed because of the ECB's recent update regarding the second test match. Barrow said that other players should take his views of support of a team member and stressed that he has come back to help England as a whole and not look to take anyones spot. In a interview earlier Barrow said,

"I was a 21 year old youngster once, and i broke into the squad, it was the best thing, then i got word that another promising youngster was coming through County Cricket and was looking to take my place, everyone talked as if i wasnt even in the team, it hurt it really did, but i stayed in and made 66 consecutive appearences. I wouldnt want to take Davies place just because of my world class tag."

This looks to be Barrow's apologies from making such a huge turn. Will the rest of the England team "grow up" as Barrow says, or will there still be a split in the team?

The Test match against Sri Lanka has been postponed till Wednesday due to heavy rain storms. The ECB released a statement saying that the second test will get underway on Wednesday when the storm has finished. It surely is better having 5 good days cricket than 4, a good decision by the muchly critised ECB?

Davies apologises to Barrow for harsh comments

Young England offspinning all rounder Nic Davies has apologised for his "harsh" comments on newly reinstated test player Simon Barrow.
"I am sorry to Simon Barrow for the silly comments I have made. He adds something special to the team and I would love to learn from him. I hope he accepts my apology and we can be friends. I don't enjoy bad feeling in the team."
