Strauss Is Dismisses And India Are Relieved:

Andrew Strauss has failed to repeat the record breaking innings that he produced in the first test but also failed to make a half century. He got off to a flyer and his brisk 31 came from just 24 balls with 6 fours! Irfan Pathan was the man who claimed the prize wicket and the much needed breakthrough for the Indians when he gave Strauss a short and wide "nothing" delivery hoping for a top edge, what he actually got was a but of movement from the seam and the ball darted back into the batsmen, Strauss tried to adjust his shot but ended up gloving the ball down onto middle stump, he will be dossapointed in himself im sure. He survived a very close LBW shout the ball before too, it kept low and he played inside the line, he was a very lucky man but it hit him outside the line of off stump. Indias left armers are still proving relatively innefective against Englands left handers but Michael Vaughan who has just come to the crease may be tested a bit more.

End Of Day 1:

What an action packed first day it was here in Kolkata!! England definately had the better of the Indians here, they took 10 out of the 11 wickets that fell today and are on course to get a decent lead. Shaun Udal was the star man as he finished of the Indians with a four wicket over after Gilo knocked over three in quick sucession. Freddie also chipped in with two pearlers. Andrew Strauss fell early as he dragged on from Pathan and Michael Vaughan joined Tresco at the crease to finish the days play. It should be an equally exciting day tomorrow so tune in then!

Blimey! I made one today as well.

As Channeldelibird says, Strauss' position is probably secure. Even a double hundred would have seemed like a failure after that fantastic knock in the first.

Trescothick Reaches 50 Then Pathan Strikes:

Marcus Trescothick waited patiently to get his half century here in Kolkata but then fell victim to a bit of magic from the little wizard! Treco playes an extremely composed knock and dint give the bowlers any chance of geting him out, no LBW appeals, no edges, no nothing, so it took a piece of individual brilliance from the little master, Sacin Tendulkar, to remove him from the crease. Pathan gave Trescothick a wide one that he could drive at and he went for it, gave it the kitchen sink and caught it well, right out of the heart of the bat, the crowds eyes went to the boundary, the bowlers eyes went to the boundary, the umpires eyes went to the boundary but Sachin Tendulkars eyes went to the little round thing he had just plucked out of the air with a wonder catch. He must have leapt 4 feet off the ground - Paul Collingwood would have been proud- and pouched an absolute corker! Speaking of Paul Collingwood, he joins the captain at the crease!

Spotlight: Micheal Vaughan And Swing:

The Indian left arm seam bowlers havent really been a threat to the left handed openers, granted that Pathan dimsissed both of them this time around but it was through their own doing, however, they have found a line that really troubles the right handers, especially when the ball swings. They have had a fair few close LBW shouts against him. The first shout has just clipped the top of the pad and was adjudged to be going over the stumps but if it had been a bit fuller it would have been a whole different story. Vaughan seems to have trouble picking up the swing, as you can see he is playing the line as if the ball was going straight on, it is swinging in, pitching in line and hitting the pads, a dangerous game to play.

This second shout was the perfect delivery to Vaughan from over the wicket, swinging in, making him play the wrong line and going onto the pads before hitting the stumps, the ball swung a bit too much this time though and pitched outside the line of leg stump, a good decision by the umpire but many would have given this and Vaughan gets lucky once again. The stance he takes in this shot is all wrong also, his head, bat and feet arent in line at all, in fact they are all over the place, he is planting his foot to quickly leaving him open to the swing and not enabling him to clip to the legside.

Its not just the seamers that are troubling him, he seems to be unsure about picking the spinners too and this is just Sachin Tendulkar!! He has has planted his front foot again here going for the pre meditated sweep shot so even if he has picked it he wouldnt have been able to move anywhere. He's looking for the ball to turn into the bat but it's the flipper which is quicker and slides on, it goes straight on into the pad and Vaughan prays that the umpires finger stays in his pocket, on thsi occasion it is going down the legside but on another, against a better spinner, it might not be.
