Feb 27 - India v England

The wicket was really a batsman's paradise. Honestly, India imploded at the end of their innings. There were some really bad captaincy decisions by MS Dhoni. Why did he send Yuvraj in instead of Kohli if Yuvraj was going to build an innings? That's Kohli's natural game, and he's not a natural hitter like Yuvraj is. So he can't come in at the end like Yuvraj to just hit. So he was basically wasted. I also thought giving a legspinner the penultimate over of the game was a bad idea - legspinners usually always get hit.

England have a lot of positives to take out of this - especially Strauss's batting, and they should replace Anderson for Broad in the next match.

Sachin didn't deserve the MOM award, Strauss was the most appropriate choice. He was batting under lights, under pressure of chasing a huge total with absolutely no support of the crowd.

This is what irritates me . You guys might adore Sachin , but how on earth does he deserve the MoM award today ?? In what way was he better than Strauss today ?? The other 3 are fair enough to me though .

120 runs bro, at a strike rate of well over 100. He was just as good as Strauss man. Maybe I would regard Strauss' innings as better as it was chasing a huge total that too under lights. But still, both were brilliant in there own right.

I can't believe we didn't even appeal for the many times Strauss was caught behind. I think I saw two occasions myself, there might have been more as I dozed off in the middle bits. But the first was when he was around 10... he nicked it but I guess no one heard it except the TV audience. Went on to score 140+ runs more...

No, it is not.
The factor will come into play, on a future date, should India and England, say clash again in the SF or the final and the match is a tie again.

In such a case, England will win by virtue of having lost less wickets than India in the group game.

Ravichandran Ashwin should have played instead of Piyush Chawla. Seems like MSD wanted to prove his detractors wrong by selecting PC and showing as to how important can he be to Team India.

No. In the knockout stages, if the match is a tie, we have the Super Over Eliminator. Since this is the league stages, we dont have that eliminator.

Chawla is receiving too much flak for his under-performance. How could Dhoni have foreseen that a bowler, who was excellent in the warm up games, would not play upto his potential here? And, to be fair to Chawla, the entire Indian bowling attack bit the dust today. Even Zaheer, the man who brought us back to the match, was pretty expensive in his first two spells. Singling out someone is just wrong when a collective failure has taken place.

Agreed that MSD could not have foreseen the event happening.
But do you remember what he said after the warm-up games- I have asked the bowlers to not put in their 100% for the warm-ups as we would require them to do so in the actual matches.

The entire bowling unit is at fault. The last two games have shown .And the crowd wont be too supportive if this continues in the next one too.

Fair enough.
An English victory - Strauss deserved it
An Indian victory - Zak deserved it

No, superover will take place in such circumstances.

I am not sure about that rule. Let me search up on the same and post it.

Nope. We needed someone like you here since well you have stated that you'd do a better job than the current set up.

Yes ! I am dead sure that I would have improved from the stick I received against Bangladesh. So, I am going to be very critical of the team and its performance.
For God's sake ! This is the World Cup ,not some one off match.

under performance in the 49th over

It's always difficult to hold your nerve in the 49th over, especially in a match which was swinging from one edge to another with every ball. We should also not forget that Chawla did take the wicket of Bresnan who could well have taken the match away from us in the 50th over considering the kind of aggression he was bristling with. I too would drop Chawla in the next match, but let's not suddenly make this kid an object of taking out our anger when all our bowlers under-performed.

More runs at a higher strike rate = better innings imo

wow.. one thing for sure with this bowling attack india in NOT winning the worldcup

A lift in bowling performance can help India in that quest. Remember they are not bad bowlers. They just are not coming to terms with the run flow that happens on subcontinent wickets. Indian bowlers are more lethal when there is some juice in the wicket.

I still think India can lift their bowling performance to complement their batting and have a serious shot at the cup.

Strauss deserved the Motm and got it. 158 under immense pressure (he's the Cap), under lights.

BTW, What the fearsome tweak was up with the Bangalore wicket? It wasn't the same that was used against Australia in the Warm up

Also people saying Yuvi should have bowled the 49th, realised that the match would have been over in Yuvi's over itself. Then everybody here would be raging "SCREW DHONI WHY DID HE NOT BOWL CHAWLA"

@icyman: Ravi Shastri announced it in his commentary during that last over, that the Eliminator will be used only during the knockout stages, and not for league stages. So that rule comes in for the quarter, semis and the final.

Harbhajan should have been retained for the 49th over and Chawla should have bowled the over bowled by Harbhajan (where he took out Matt Prior). Dhoni made so many blunders today, and yet escaped with a tie.

That is exactly what beats me too.

Ireland restricted Bangladesh to 205.
And for a team to come to terms with their own wickets sounds ridiculous. Well, we have been playing on these wickets for the last 18 months. Had this WC been in SAF or AUS, yes, then its a different thing altogether. But, this is quite preposterous.
