At the end of the season, we finished with 2 honours. We managed to win the Uefa Cup, beating Dortmund in the final with a very comfortable 2-0 victory, with goals from Aguero and Robinho setting up victory. The final was just a perfect example of the squad I've got, 17 year old Ignacio Camacho came on and played 40 minutes of the 2nd half in place of Johnson and performed brilliantly, setting up the 2nd and decicive goal. The defence managed to keep the impressive Sahin and Guilherme completely quiet and it was as comfortable a victory as I saw all season.
Then we also won the Premier League, finishing 10 points clear of Arsenal, after an impressive run in, finishing the season with an 8 game winning streak, going 21 games unbeaten. The only team that we struggled against was Arsenal, who beat us in the League at the Emirates, and also knocked us out of the FA Cup in the 5th round. Apart from that it was a flawless campaign, just purely topped off by the 2nd XI beating United 3-1 at Old Trafford in the penultimate game of the season.
The only worrying issue was the form of Francesco Totti. He started the season wonderfully, and actually finished with 30 goals in 39 appearances, but he had a better than a goal a game ratio after 20 games, meaning his last 19 appearances resulted in 3 goals. Which frankly, for a guy who cost over £30million isn't good enough. I actually ended up using Robinho as the lone striker towards the end of the season. I will keep Totti in the squad, as he's still class, but I will be bringing in a new striker, with Dortmund star Guilherme being my main target, he's well worth a look.
I also have Steven Gerrard coming in during the summer as well, so the already solid midfield will be boosted even more, with a centre midfield partnership of Gerrard and Iniesta sounding incredibly appetising. Hopefully my board will give me enough transfer money to complete the signing of Guilherme, he's not going to be cheap, looking at paying around the £30million mark for him. He looks a tremendous talent though, and he's only 19.
Pretty good season I'd say =D
Edit:
Woah, made some real wholesale changes to the squad over the Summer Transfer Window. I've sold Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Elano, Vincent Kompany, Jo and Francesco Totti all for big money. This gave me a massive transfer kitty, which I think I've used pretty well. My first transfer was the striker I've been looking for, signing Guilherme from Dortmund for £28.5million. It may sound alot for a relative unknown, but he's got amazing stats, and scores goals, and he's very young as well. My 2nd transfer was another good'un from Real Madrid, cashing in on Ezequiel Garay's very low Minimum Fee Release Clause to snap him up for a very acceptable £13.75million. The big transfer of the summer though, was the signing of Lionel Messi from Barcelona. I thought I'd take a look at his stats and see how ridiculous his release fee was, and was amazed, he only cost me £42.5million :O. I then thought I'd struggle to get him to sign a contract, but my first offer of £125'000 a week did the job, and Messi is now a City player
.
So, that's quite a few massive signings there, and a fair reshuffling of the team. Here's what my first XI now looks like:
----------------------------Akinfeev------------------------------------
-----Richards--------Gonzalo-------Garay-----------Marcelo------
-------------------Gerrard----------Iniesta------------------------------
-----Messi---------------Aguero----------------Robinho---------
------------------------Guilherme---------------------------------
Well chuffed with that, if that's not a Champions League winning side, then I don't know what is. Can't wait to the start of the next season now, time to lead the team to back to back Premier League titles I think
