FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

How much of the game do you watch? Usually I only watch the key moments. Maybe I should watch more to get a better feel of what works and what doesnt?

I watch most of the matches but I put the match speed to full. It doesn't take to long to go through a match and I feel like I get more involved that way.

Nice win KP :)

I'll attempt to offer some little tips. First one. Bin the formation. It's farrrr too attacking, using 3 defenders in the Premier League, especially when those 3 defenders include Garrido and Dunne is madness. I'd go for 4 at the back, buy a new right back (I'd buy Rafinha, I bought him for City), then buy a new Centre Back, I went for Gonzalo Rodriguez from Villarreal and he's done a splendid job for me.

I dunno, I'm using three at the back, and I'm third in the premier league. Granted i've only played 8 games into my season (damned uni and having a life not allowing more game time!)

I think Robinho has been pretty good, I picked up Owen on the cheap, and alongside Jo also, it makes for a formidable attack!

First season as City over. What a season it was. When I started I presumed I'd be challenging for title after struggling to buy any top class talent, but once the season started I knew I had something special. A First Team squad with an average age of 22, packed with incredible talent and considering the tender ages of the majority of the squad, a decent amount of experience as well. I knew that if I was going to stand a chance of winning the league then Robinho would have to go well. Go well he did, I started my reign by making him the new Captain, and it obviously had a positive effect on his game, as he truely led by example. Robinho's season stats are fantastic. From the 62 games played, he scored 32 goals, got himself, 10 assists, 16 MOTM awards and an average rating of 7.75. The majority of those 32 goals came from Left Wing as well, which makes the achievement even more special.

Robinho wasn't the only top performer though. The season included incredibly consistant performances from the likes of Sergio Aguero, Micah Richards, Elano, Michael Johnson, Andres Iniesta, Alessandro Rosina and Francesco Totti. The whole squad contributed thanks to a well implemented rotation system. No-one in the First XI was incapable of stepping up to play in all competitions. Players like Gelson Fernandes and Ched Evans made stellar performances in the Premier League, with Fernandes providing vital back-up to the centre midfield.

At the end of the season, we finished with 2 honours. We managed to win the Uefa Cup, beating Dortmund in the final with a very comfortable 2-0 victory, with goals from Aguero and Robinho setting up victory. The final was just a perfect example of the squad I've got, 17 year old Ignacio Camacho came on and played 40 minutes of the 2nd half in place of Johnson and performed brilliantly, setting up the 2nd and decicive goal. The defence managed to keep the impressive Sahin and Guilherme completely quiet and it was as comfortable a victory as I saw all season.

Then we also won the Premier League, finishing 10 points clear of Arsenal, after an impressive run in, finishing the season with an 8 game winning streak, going 21 games unbeaten. The only team that we struggled against was Arsenal, who beat us in the League at the Emirates, and also knocked us out of the FA Cup in the 5th round. Apart from that it was a flawless campaign, just purely topped off by the 2nd XI beating United 3-1 at Old Trafford in the penultimate game of the season.

The only worrying issue was the form of Francesco Totti. He started the season wonderfully, and actually finished with 30 goals in 39 appearances, but he had a better than a goal a game ratio after 20 games, meaning his last 19 appearances resulted in 3 goals. Which frankly, for a guy who cost over £30million isn't good enough. I actually ended up using Robinho as the lone striker towards the end of the season. I will keep Totti in the squad, as he's still class, but I will be bringing in a new striker, with Dortmund star Guilherme being my main target, he's well worth a look.

I also have Steven Gerrard coming in during the summer as well, so the already solid midfield will be boosted even more, with a centre midfield partnership of Gerrard and Iniesta sounding incredibly appetising. Hopefully my board will give me enough transfer money to complete the signing of Guilherme, he's not going to be cheap, looking at paying around the £30million mark for him. He looks a tremendous talent though, and he's only 19.

Pretty good season I'd say =D

Edit:

Woah, made some real wholesale changes to the squad over the Summer Transfer Window. I've sold Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Elano, Vincent Kompany, Jo and Francesco Totti all for big money. This gave me a massive transfer kitty, which I think I've used pretty well. My first transfer was the striker I've been looking for, signing Guilherme from Dortmund for £28.5million. It may sound alot for a relative unknown, but he's got amazing stats, and scores goals, and he's very young as well. My 2nd transfer was another good'un from Real Madrid, cashing in on Ezequiel Garay's very low Minimum Fee Release Clause to snap him up for a very acceptable £13.75million. The big transfer of the summer though, was the signing of Lionel Messi from Barcelona. I thought I'd take a look at his stats and see how ridiculous his release fee was, and was amazed, he only cost me £42.5million :O. I then thought I'd struggle to get him to sign a contract, but my first offer of £125'000 a week did the job, and Messi is now a City player :D.

So, that's quite a few massive signings there, and a fair reshuffling of the team. Here's what my first XI now looks like:

----------------------------Akinfeev------------------------------------

-----Richards--------Gonzalo-------Garay-----------Marcelo------

-------------------Gerrard----------Iniesta------------------------------

-----Messi---------------Aguero----------------Robinho---------

------------------------Guilherme---------------------------------

Well chuffed with that, if that's not a Champions League winning side, then I don't know what is. Can't wait to the start of the next season now, time to lead the team to back to back Premier League titles I think :D

Woah, you pick players up cheap. Is Garay's min. fee release clause always that low? And Messi for that much is ludicrusly awesome :D. May I reccomend Javi Martinez to you guys. 19 years old and the next wonderkid. Will become the best central midfielder in the game. My scout found him "Quality signing", "potential to be better than Lampard", "A leading star for any Premiership club". I was about to sign him but then Bayern come in and offer £20 mil for him. Pissed off that I missed out on him.

Haha I had Utd three games in a row. First game was Champions League quarter final first leg. At home. Drew 1-1. They were two early goals and the rest of the game was boring with no chances. Then the FA Cup Semi Final. Won 2-1 :D. I took the lead with Drogba. They levelled at half time with a header from Tevez. Then 79th minute, wonder strike from Aguero :D:D. Through to the final vs Villa. Then two days later, away to Utd in Champions League again. HAMMER THEM! 3-1! Framps scores twice and assists Aguero. Happy days :D:D.

Got Liverpool, Madrid, Utd, Madrid :S.

Anyway if I beat Liverpool today I win the league :D. I'll probably lose and lose to Utd as well. May beat Madrid in Champions League if I get lucky.

EDIT: Forget that! Won the league already :D:D:D. Everton lost 3-2 to Fulham :D. I'll rest the big names for the Champions League match vs Madrid.

Dr. Pepper added 24 Minutes and 48 Seconds later...

Just beat Madrid 3-0! Complete ownage :D. Drogba, Aguero and Marcelo scored. Drogba is suspended for the 2nd leg and Makelele and Lamps are on yellows. I don't know what to do there. If either get a yellow, they miss the final and I'll need them badly. Aguero is tipped for English Players' Young Player Of The Year :D:D:D.

Now this is just lollable beyond belief. Utd are unlikely to offer Fergie a new deal. The contenders for the new job are Irureta, Me and PAUL JEWELL. Haha! Because he's a fantastic manager isn't he.

Rob. Stop editing my posts ffs. It's incredibly annoying. There's no reason to spoiler that last post, there's nothing in there that would ruin the game for anyone. I'm just talking about my team and the transfers I've made. You're taking things to ridiculous levels now, just leave posts alone, no-one else has a problem with it apart from you.

I've not started the new season well at all, beat Arsenal on penalties in the Community Sheild, then beat Pompey 3-1 in the league, but since then I drew 3-3 with West Ham (they did the same to me in the first season) and then lost 1-0 to Barca in the Euro Super Cup. Was a lucky win for them though, their goal was miles off-side. Cheating gets. Messi was awful against Barca as well, he better come good, be annoyed if he doesn't. Various teams are after all my decent youth as well, had bids for Rosina, Defour, Fernandes, Iniesta, Johnson, Marcelo and Rafinha. Quite annoying, they just keep offering stupidly low prices for my top stars, I just counter with something close to the money I want, and they bugger off. Very annoying.

It is a little excessive Rob. I forgot to put spoiler tags in my bit but I didn't see owt wrong with Dan's post.

Just lost to Madrid 2-1 at Bernabeu but I'm not complaining. I go through to the final on 4-1 on aggeragate. I'm going to play either Arsenal or Inter and by the looks of things Arsenal. They won away from home 3-2.

Dr. Pepper added 3 Minutes and 23 Seconds later...

Got Arsenal :(. They owned Inter 4-1. I wanted Inter so If I lost, the board wouldn't mind. If I lose to Arsenal they'll get pissed off.

No, I won't stop editing your posts until you actually take notice of what i've told you.

You're still posting the names of players which would likely be unknown to most people, and that's what i've asked you to put in spoilers...

I've taken notice. I just decided to ignore it because as far as I'm concerned it's bullshit. It's just a 1 man vendetta against an issue that's causing no problem in the slightest. No-one else has a problem with it except you, you should be modding for the benefit of the community, not to get your ridiculous views across. No-one on here agrees with you, but because you're a mod we're expected to bend over and let you edit our posts. Sorry, but it's not happening.

Also, spoilering that 1 post is purely ridiculous. Guilherme and Garay are well known players within the FM world, and last time I checked, Steven Gerrard, Lionel Messi are pretty well known around the world. It's just another example of you taking things beyond the extreme just to get your ridiculous point enforced. I've not advised anyone to buy those players, I've just given a summary of my XI and who I'VE bought, it's not a spoiler. It's not ruining the game for anyone.

If you want to take the discussion further, then do it via PM, but I think it's time someone put their views across because it's been clear from what I've read, and heard from others that it's a pretty exclusive view you have going here.

It's a shame that somehow Everton have slipped behind Arsenal and Liverpool to third with one game left. They were second all season. Still Moyes'll be happy with top four finish (I know it's not real :p). Utd are guaranteed to finish outside top four. Bolton may even take over them on final day.

Gave Ben Sahar and other young boys a game vs Sunderland and Sahar opened the scoring. It was 1-1 so I brought Hilario (give him at least one game), Aguero and Makelele on. Aguero scores twice and so does JC :D. 4-2 win.

Got Blackburn on the last day of the season. They got relegated about 5 games ago lol. They're rock bottom of the league. Hughes and me got on well but Coppel's new gaffa. I might snatch a few players (Santa Cruz) if I can get them cheap seeing as they're going down.
