Well in the last WC,the only competition the Aussies ever faced came from the minnows.
Kenya in the Super Six
Holland in the Group.
Australia beat holland by 75 runs in 2003 and India beat them by 68. 75 runs in anyones language is a flogging.

Hoggy cleans up the tail that's more like it from him now for him to do it against SA.
After that performance from Hodge I would keep him ahead of Watson given hes a better lower order and his offies should be handy on these pitches.

True, i think Watson will make way for Symonds which is quite sad. If it were me selecting the team then id have Hayden making way for Symonds.

Really? I'd drop Clarke. Has done nothing at 4 except for a dinky little 90 odd not out against the Netherlands. Atleast Hayden makes runs. Give Watson a geese at the number 4 spot. You can't have an allrounder opening the batting in this day and age of International cricket.

Oh yep let's go drop a guy averaging more than Hayden and Ponting in the ODI arena. As for Hayden he made the flukest 100 ever, if NZ could hold onto their catches he wouldn't be opening right now.

I think its better Cricket Australia put Watson or Haddin with Gilly in the opening slot . Hayden is totally out of form , watson and haddin both got the capability to play in the opening slot as well as in the lower middle order. Basically Hayden should not be playing in the enxt match , his performance is really bad .

Please... how many times have you seen Hayden get caught off the catch of the year or something? Remember Sinclair's catch? How about Collingwood's? You take the good with the bad. Averaging more then Hayden & Punter because of so many not outs in so lesser innings, I'd be supprised if he finishes up with a better ODI average then Hayden & Ponting. It takes someone the class of Ponting to go through a ODI innings without giving a chance. It's rarely ever done!

To say Hayden isn't performaning is stupid. His been averaging 53 in ODI's this year and before the Netherlands game Clarke had been averaging 31.

.... Hussey fails again!!!

I was really hoping that they would bat him at 4 so he could get some batting time, but nooooo, can't do that.

Now who should we drop for Symonds - Let' look at the team :)

Gilchrist - No.

Hayden - Has looked really out of form this world cup. Maybe the man at the top of the list right now. Open Gilly with Watson then? Maybe even Clarke?

Ponting - Lol no.

Clarke - I knew he was going to make runs against Netherlands. Can't drop him now i guess. But still not sure about batting him at 4th.

Hodge - Has looked good so far. Made a hundred today so the answer is...No!

Hussey - No, yes badly out of form, but just needs time out there. His too much class too drop.

Watson - Have not seen much of him off the top of my head, but he's looked in better form then Hayden. Maybe opening? Maybe not?

Ok... after thinking about it today, I'm going to have to say Hayden may have to go. If you asked me before the game I would have said Clarke, but sorry Hayden, you got a little start and didn't go on with it... Clarke did make runs. But saying this you can bet they're going to drop Watson, which is sad IMO. I'm not a big fan of Watson, but I think Hayden should go before him right now.

When your main method of scoring is wandering down the pitch and having a slog you do tend to get caught a lot

Well you say you can't drop Clarke, why not? Because he made a 93 against the Netherlands? In Australia, that'd be like playing 2nd or 3rd grade cricket. Hayden also made a half-century in the 1st game and his only played 2 innings in the WC thus far? Not to mention he made 181 against New Zealand 3 matches ago? And where's this out of form coming from? There's nothing wrong with him. I couldn't see Watson doing much better as Gilchrist wasn't looking as well as he usually does either. You really think the selectors are as bone headed as to drop someone whose been averaging 50 odd this year so thus whose made 60 and 30 in their first 2 innings of the tour?

Aussie, if Clarke made 181 not out or all the centuries Ponting's been making this summer then his average would've probably risen up to somewhere near 50 odd.

How's he meant to be making a 181 not out from number 6? Most of his knocks at 4 have been around the 30 over mark when the team needs him to up the run rate. He's already got 2 100s while opening showing he's more than capable.

Hodge should make way for Symonds in my opinion. He made a good hundred, but really I don't think you should pick players based on their performances against a team like the Netherlands. He wasn't tested 1 ounce. It's one thing facing that bowling, but the next day you have to be good enough to face the Shane Bond's, Shaun Pollocks and Muili's of the top sides.

Otherwise just drop Watson. But I think he has more to offer then Hodge.

As for Hayden he made the flukest 100 ever, if NZ could hold onto their catches he wouldn't be opening right now.

How can you not like Hayden? Not all of the NZ players dropped him, you mean if Vettori had held that easy chance. He was dropped and thats that. It happens, it;s cricket. Look at McMillan. He was out off an obvious edge and that knock of 80 odd re-fueled his career. It's happened many times before. .

He was dropped for a duck IIRC, that with 5 games of low scores since being brought back in wouldn't have been good for him. It doesn't matter what his record is like if you are trying to get back into the side you make your mark or pack your bags.
