India in West Indies, 2009

Sachin was/is the only one who could really play short balls in our side.

Dont depend on Sachin too much. He should be kept for Test matches.

YES YES YES! I couldn't be happier with the selection. NAYAR AND BADRI in! :happy:happy

All I can say is, FINALLY. It's about time.

I think Rohit Sharma will continue opening. Murali Vijay will be there as back up.

Gautam Gambhir
Rohit Sharma
Subramanium Badrinath
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni
Abhishekh Nayar
Yusuf Pathan
Harbhajan Singh
Praveen Kumar
Ishant Sharma
Ashish Nehra

I like this selection except M.Vijay.I guess Kohli could have been given a chance ahead of him.Vijay does not deserve a place in ODI format.

I have to disagree. Although I think he's a better test player, Vijay is generally aggressive in his batting and will suite the ODI format well. He's proved himself in domestic cricket, and I think he deserves the call up. Kohil can wait his turn.

Murali Vijay averages 44 in List A cricket through 25 matches with 3 centuries and 5 fifties, and we needed an opener more than a middle order batsmen. I know Virat averages more, but he's scored most of his centuries against lacklustre bowling in the Ranji ODI tourney, while Vijay's Tamil Nadu won the tournament with Vijay being very good (so was Mukund btw, but doubt he'll get picked this early).

So, imo, M. Vijay totally deserves his selection. Plus the need for an opener made Vijay the logical choice.

Edit: Overall, a pretty good side. And, Manish Pandey is not going to make the World Cup team unless he absolutely bats out of his socks this next season. Pandey was never a opener, more a No. 3/4 at U-19 and in his one or two appearances for Karnataka, so yeah, there's that too. I reckon he can bat anywhere though in the Top 6 if groomed right, but grooming him to play one definitive role is probably the way to go.

Well looking at players selected this will be ideal ODI lineup:

Gautam Gambhir
Dinesh Karthik (WK)
Rohit Sharma
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni (C)
Yusuf Pathan
Ravindra Jadeja
Harbhajan Singh
Praveen Kumar
RP Singh
Ashish Nehra

Ishant deserved boot but I guess he is darling of selectors and Dhoni.

Dravid is fairly good, as well. Of course he's not in the ODI team anymore. :p

The rest are mainly a laughing stock when it comes to tackling short balls. Hopefully the likes of Badri and Nayar show these guy how to play them. And also hopefully the rest of the guys are in the nets practicing their technique against short balls, because they're going to get plenty of it in the Carribbean.

Is it just me, or from first glance the teams looks a bit raw?

YipEE!!! Nayar in!!! He deserved the chance and now he needs to make the most of it.

My team would be

Guatam Gambhir
Rohit Sharma
Badrinath
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni(C)(wk)
Abhishek Nayar
Yusuf Pathan
Praveen Kumar
Harbhajan Singh
RP Singh
Ishant Sharma

I would go with Ishant sharma for the first match becoz the wickets over there could just favour him but if he fails then straightaway comes in Nehra.

yeah Nayar has a good ability of playing shirt balls and he can smash Edwards and Taylor for sixes as he did to Freddie Flintoff in the first game of the IPL..

Thats a pretty decent team. Almost what I picked (except for Pandey). I still think Pandey should come in anytime soon. He looks an exceptional talent and he can flourish only when he is given the chances in the international level. I feel he should be a big part of our 2011 plans and the sooner he comes, the better for his career and for us.

Abhishek Nayar's selection was a surprise for me. But it will help us. We have had spinning allrounders. Now we have a medium pacer allrounder which is good. We dont need to play 3 pacers now. We can play 2+2 with Nayar as a medium pacer and Yusuf+Yuvraj+Rohit as the spinning options (Nayar and these three will share the 5th bowler overs). This would be my ideal XI

Gautam Gambhir
Rohit Sharma
S Badrinath
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni
Abhishek Nayar
Yusuf Pathan
Harbhajan Singh
Pragyan Ojha
RP Singh
Ishant/Nehra

Ishant and Nehra will switch places. Since Nayar came in, I would leave Jadeja out and have two specialist spinners. Badri should be at one down since he is a grafter than a hitter.

i would like to have nehra in place of ishant. he needs some rest now. They should use him carefully otherwise he will vanish like D Mohanti

you must be kidding:rolleyes:

Sachin needs to play in the important ODI tournaments like the Champions Trophy, World Cup, etc. He needs to be saved for those big and important ODI series. Of course he plays all test matches though. This series is not big enough even for Dhoni, Yuvraj, etc but they have apparently no choice now.
