India tour of New Zealand - Jan to Feb 2014

Our over rate, at 12-ish, is totally atrocious.

Even though the commentators hated it, I thought it was a good move to bring Jadeja on to see if Southee wants to take him on.

Why would Dhoni bring Jadeja on? It was ridiculous. Southee wasn't going to throw his wicket away, especially with fielders on the boundaries. Keep the aggression going with the effective fast bowlers!!

Its typical tactics to entice the batsman to go for the big shot with one over to go for the break. Get easy runs, but risk getting out too. If it was a fast bowler, the batsmen will have more fear of getting out and would shut shop. With a spinner, a batsman gets the courage to take the risk thinking he will click. But Southee didn't fall for it, which was well done.

Well bowled Ishant, really deserves these last couple of wickets. He must be feeling like its his birthday with this green monster we've given him after all the roads hes had to bowl on in India. I think we're in trouble here and that the greentop plan may have backfired. Looks like its browning off a little and the sun is out which certainly isn't helping. I'm all for trying to win 2-0 but it doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense when you're ahead in the series.

WTF with Dhoni's tactics of giving Jadeja the ball after tea? He gave away 12 runs in that over to Southee. Could potentially come to bite us in our back.

Very well bowled Ishant. He has looked splendid in this series. Probably he performs best when there is help for him. Its upto the captain to use Ishant sparingly and well enough.

I'm a bit tired of the antics by Indian batsmen once they're given out. I don't understand the shaking of the head. The world will be able to tell if it's a mistake or not, just walk off. It irks me even more because they tend to do this when replays clearly suggest they're out.

Surprise, surprise. Seems like Ishant is finally starting to click. But I feel we gave away 20-30 runs extra, could well come back to haunt us should this go down to the wire.

PS: Are NZ giving away their wickets to Ishant on purpose so that he continues to play or did he genuinely bowl that good :p?

I've also noticed they pronounce Ishant as if its Eshant lol

Gotta love the Kiwi commentators: "Shikadawann!"

This makes me remember a Russel Peters performance where he made fun of different accents and names some of which I remember included Indian names like Sukhdeep and Hardik. No offence.

Oh I remember that. Pretty funny.

Good batting, all this. It's not that Boult and Southee haven't bowled well - they've had a few plays-and-misses, but Dhawan and Pujara have rode out the tough period and may be cashing in now. (EDIT: Son of a whorebitch! There's Pujara gone now.)

----------

A quick question about the no-ball debate: is it no longer the umpires' job to adjudge no-balls in the general course of play? Why is it that no-balls are checked only when people get out? I thought Ishant and Zaheer both bowled at least a couple that were very close, at least to the naked eye, and Wagner seemed to have bowled a couple as well.

Top notch umpiring from Kettleborough!

Well for all those questioning why Dhoni would bowl Jadeja, I think this may have been a small reason why.

^ Agree. And I think the reason is because they don't play consistently well long enough. One high, then two lows, then high again, then low...and so on
