India tour of South Africa

Lol Sunny G throwing some srrious shade as part of the host broadcaster commenary team.
Because he doesn't have the permission to throw shade when he is commentating under BCCI production in India :p

From where I see, this is likely to be abandoned tomorrow. They are talking about repairing the pitch but that won't (and should not) be agreed upon by Kohli and India. If the pitch becomes better after the repair, it gives the advantage to South Africa. And I am kinda sure Faf is going to come out tomorrow and not want to continue.

Well atleast from an Indian perspective, makes me proud of the way we batted on this wicket despite it being called a "dangerous pitch".

And the comment now from Cricinfo

Cricinfo said:
Bumrah to Elgar, no run, struck on the helmet. Short of a length ball shoots* up from the surface at an off stump line. He's looking to defend when, the next moment, he feels the impact. Flush on the front of the helmet. Looks to be in shock. That was scary. Very very scary. He's on his feet, thanks to the superior grille protection.

*Addendum: Replays show that the ball was shorter than it appeared in real time and that Elgar was standing outside his crease. Looks more like a case of a batsman missing the ball than the pitch acting up.

See?

Just read about this in the Cricinfo comments too (that Kohli wanted to play on in the first session when the abandonment offer came). And seeing the way India have batted after that, it makes all the more sense to continue the game since India have shown that you can bat on this pitch if you apply properly.

I dont mind getting off but it should've been done yesterday. Coming this far and then telling that this game cant go on, does great disservice to India. Anyways series is gone and a 2-0 or 2-1 wont matter as much. But India have really deserved a victory here and should get it.
Come on. The umpires deemed the pitch dangerous enough to abandon in the first session. They know better than us. This pitch isn't bad for batting 100% of the deliveries. It's the extremely uneven bounce that is the problem. A couple of Indian batsmen got hit as well. You're just talking blindly patriotic, as shown by this post above too^

Pitch got extra bounce thats it, but it is not dangerous like Delhi's banned pitch... This type of pitch specially made for this Test series to hunt Indian team down, but now they only having the problem...

When they come to India to play, they complain about pitch... when India play against them in there home condition, they again complain... May be South African's don't want to get hurt and miss the IPL (tomorrow is the auction)... :D

See?

If you watch the game earlier there were many cases of dangerous balls, umpire discussions and physio running out ever so often.

Not only about that one ball to Elgar.

Also it appears the instruction to Indian bowlers were to bowl short.

The 2nd test had a subcontinental pitch. I concur though an investigation of this pitch needs to happen and SA fined heavily and perhaps ban international cricket on this ground for the next 5 yrs.

Irrespective of whether Kohli declined the offer to abandon the match while India was batting, I think it's better to let go of this. Yes, India holds the advantage at this point, but it would be in the sports best interest if Kohli accepts the decision. But knowing the Shastri-Kohli combo I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

I missed some of today’s play just read on cricinfo that Rahane took a shot to the elbow and sent back the physio to make ot look like all is well with the pitch.

Great post though asprin, couldnt agree more.

I don't blame Kohli or Shastri for this. The spineless umpires should have really made the call a long time ago. The problem is that they waited for India to fight it out and be in a well deserved overseas test winning position.

ICC regulations:
  • 6.2 Fitness of pitch for play: The umpires shall be the sole judges of the fitness of the pitch for play.

  • 6.4 Changing the pitch: The pitch shall not be changed during the match unless the umpires decide that it is dangerous or unreasonable for play to continue on it and then only with the consent of both captains.

  • 6.4.1 If the on-field umpires decide that it is dangerous or unreasonable for play to continue on the match pitch, they shall stop play and immediately advise the ICC Match Referee.

  • 6.4.2 The on-field umpires and the ICC Match Referee shall then consult with both captains.

  • 6.4.3 If the captains agree to continue, play shall resume.

  • 6.4.4 If the decision is not to resume play, the on-field umpires together with the ICC Match Referee shall consider whether the existing pitch can be repaired and the match resumed from the point it was stopped. In considering whether to authorise such repairs, the ICC Match Referee must consider whether this would place either side at an unfair advantage, given the play that had already taken place on the dangerous pitch.

  • 6.4.5 If the decision is that the existing pitch cannot be repaired, then the match is to be abandoned as a draw.

And I'm not saying that it would reflect poorly on them if India decide to press on. After all, we did bat on the same pitch and coped with the difficulties. All I'm saying is that we have a chance to set an example here and I think we should take it.

I would rather we be 2-0 than 2-1 and then have people say you won because of the pitch. Because I believe if we take the field tomorrow, the odds are 70-30 in India's favor.

After all that is said and done the match will continue in the morning. The Indians could care less about their own safety far of for the Proteas’. India have too much clout in world cricket today and will implore and influence the match officials to continue this game with the only result being an Indian win. My hope is all the players on both teams remain unharmed!
