India tour of South Africa

Chasing 240 needs to be approached cleverly. There is no way you can play out a draw hence SA need to approach the chase in one of two ways:

(1) - Either preserve against the new ball using the likes of Rabada to hold the more important wickets for the middle overs where scoring beings a little easier. An approach similar to what Vijay and Pujara did in the 2nd and 1st innings respectively.
(2) - Go all out attack and aim to complete this chase in 60-70 overs.

The longer you hang around, the higher the chances you will lose you wicket with such a volatile pitch.

On the other hand, we will need at least 3 wickets tonight to feel comfortable. Hope the wicket has not eased down.[DOUBLEPOST=1516977219][/DOUBLEPOST]Im hoping for Shami to switch on his fiery mode again in the second innings. He was a let doen in the first innings.

Your wish is his command. Shami gets Makram in his first over.

The intensity with which Shami bowled that first over is the Shami that we want to see every time he has ball in his hand.

Its going to be challenging for India also. Somehow I feel the pitch has eased out a bit. And I am wondering why this brouhaha over the danger of the pitch. If it was so tough, I doubt India would have reached 240+. I feel SA are still very much in it. I know Indian pitches have unfairly been treated poor and all, but to me, this pitch seems fine (yes very tilting towards bowlers but playable)

The one occasion I would have definitely opened the bowling with Bumrah, Kohli hasn't.

To set 240 on this track has been a mighty fine effort. However, there is a certain ABD in the opposition. Lets see how it pans out.
Kudos to India for the courage they have shown. Very few modern teams do that overseas.

The performance today has won a lot of respect from me. Credit where its due. Its time we realize who are our matchwinners in test cricket in challenging conditions. Vijay and Pujara are the absorbers while Kohli and Rajane are the guys who punch back. This lineup must not be changed for the sake of some T20-like rotation policy. I hope we have seen thr last of Rohit in whites. It is worth persisting with Karun Nair as the 6th batsman. Also, Pandya as a regular test match option is still doubtful. He needs to be bankable in one of the two skills in order to be useful. At the moment, he is a bit hit and miss in both. He may have long term potential but not enough to justify being selected abover someone like Ashwin or a genuine batsman.

If only the right choices were made at the very start of yhe series!

Aditya you have a brilliant knowledge set of the game and follow nearly all the test series, you really think AB can negotiate this pitch and post a good score? I dont think he can, hope he makes a difference though!

The Indians batted really well they stuck it out!

Looks like talks are going on about whether to abandon the test or not. This is really ridiculous and would be unfair to India, who have shown with their batting that this pitch has not been as treacherous as it seems to be made to look. If they abandon it from here on, India will definitely feel robbed of a crucial overseas test victory.

Hope Kohli does not take the offer and hope he insists on continuing with the game.

This is what Ive been posting all bloody morning! Abandon this match!

Nasty shot on Elgar, hope he is okay. I dont trust these Indian players at all they are using this horrid pitch to hurt the SA batsmen! Very distasteful and disgusting to watch!

Oh just get on with it. India batted the whole day facing many deliveries like that. Safety is important but It will be a joke if they call off the game because of that. Just a well directed bouncer that Elgar didn't play well.

So a test victory is that important? You’ll take a players life for it huh!

Youre a sick demented person to even think of staying on this pitch!

Even if SA were ahead I’d still say to abandon this game.[DOUBLEPOST=1516980327][/DOUBLEPOST]

Seriously that is a rubbish post. That was a short ball and had nothing to do with the pitch really. I also agree with Gavaskar on air when he says if similar thing had happened with an Indian batsman and India made such a fuss, India would be looked down at.

Short bowling on this pitch, my initial point exactly of not trusting this Indian team. Everyone were happing about the poor condition of this ground now that India are ahead all is fine. Hypocrisy at its finest.

It doesnt matter which team is playing this pitch is absolutely horrendous and as far as I am cocerned SA board should be fined hefty for this abomination![DOUBLEPOST=1516980719][/DOUBLEPOST]Honestly as a fan of the game and someone who holds test cricket dear to my heart I say let SA fortfeit this match. The Indians want a win so badly just give them it and keep the players safe!

Nothing to do with India being ahead. Had SA been in the driver's seat, will they have made such a big fuss as they have now? Didn't the ball misbehave when India were batting? India did bat out two sessions today, isn't it?

If it was so life threatening, how did India even post 240+ on it? Shami was tonking sixes on it, for god's sake. And a lower order player Kumar scored 33.

I agree with what Gavaskar has been quoted as saying. If an Indian was in place of Elgar and India did this, we'd have been called "sissies", "can't handle the pace", "flat track bullies", "BCCI clout" blah blah blah.
