I wouldn't have mind if the selectors had backed Vihari for this Test series. Granted that he hasn't scored any big ones but his useful contributions of 30-70 runs down the order have been vital in the last few Tests that he had played.

Want to see Rahkeem do this to Kohli

So Kishan and Jaiswal both debut. Are they expecting Kishan to do what Pant did? Absolutely bonkers for Bharat.

He's not really done that much with his batting chances (Bharat). I can see the hope that maybe Kishan can do more what Pant does and provide a counterpunch in the middle order.

His keeping is what I am more worried about. We have a huge lower order Ashwin and Thakur so his batting wont be as crucial but would be neat to get a 50 ball 50 or something when needed.

Vihari hasn't played any innings of substance, bar that Sydnet test. No match winning/game/session changing contributions. He hasn't set the stage on fire in domestic as well. So, why should he get an opportunity?

While I am all in for a specialist keeper over a keeper bat to avoid the Bairstow-esque situation in the team, I would have to echo @wasteyouryouth's thoughts. Bharat unfortunately has been EXTREMELY shoddy with the bat and has been okayish behind the stump. Also, Ishan CAN keep wickets though nowhere near perfectly but certainly different from having a part timer (remember Shai Hope keeping wickets while Nicholas Pooran was asked to field).

Truth be told, the only solid wicket keeper with some sort of batting form in India right now is Saha who has ran out of luck from the selectors maybe due to his age or the comments that he made in the past. Hopefully, Ishan is decent behind the wicket. We all know that on his day, Ishan can emulate what Pant has done with the bat.

You are correct but there was a chance to play him when Rahane was dropped and Iyer was injured. Vihari is a gritty fellow that is perfect for Test cricket if given a longer run. The man played left handed in a domestic game when he had an injury on his more preferred batting hand. He gives a part time bowling option too which bizarrely none of our top 5 (+keeper) do!

We need this determination and grit. Instead, the team management aimed for 'Sky' and fell flat on their face.

Tangerine Chanderpaul batting akin to his father, Shiv, with a little less crabby-iness. Maybe by the time the next generation of Chanderpaul comes in to test cricket, they will be more natural looking.

I am more excited about watching the big man Rakheem back! He's a true entertainer.

My God look at all the excitement in this thread for the series.
:p
