Went from  to  quickly!

I for one am excited about the test series. This is a perfect opportunity to try our futures. We are going to be in a test transition phase soon from all perspectives. I think this might be Rohit's last test stint as the next test wont be until end of year. Our combined bowling wickets tally is 88 wickets with Shami resting, our middle order is new with no Puji and Pant and hopefully Rahane is gone soon as too introduce young blood.

We had a tough 1st WTC cycle with most of the tours being away, easy 2nd WTC cycle with most of the tours being home and now back to away cycle during our test transition. I for one wont be disappointed if we do not make it to the WTC finals this time as long as we play good fighting cricket.

Even if we qualify there is no use as we keep on losing the finals lol! So I am excited to see Team India who have been the most consistent and best Test side in last 5 years (backed by 2 back to back qualifications in the finals of WTC) transition to a new team

I don’t mind Gill at three, it’s close enough to the opening role he likes and it may help him be less exposed to swing that he’s struggling to deal with on his front foot.

Gill actually likes playing at 3 or 4. Has played at 3 for Punjab I think.

He has played at three sometimes but not at four. He hasn’t asked to play there for Punjab either (something that could have been easily arranged) and has previously said that he doesn’t mind being shifted to the Indian middle order should the team want it. Seems to me like he prefers to open, could be one of those modern blokes that likes to go hard on a new ball.
