India's Tour Of Sri Lanka Jul-Aug 2012

Meh Raina got dropped again, could have easily been run out too. Talented dude, but I'm not ready to crown him all-pro yet. Rohit failed again, but Tiwary wasn't exactly dynamite with bat either. Might come down to who is the better bowler :p

Kohli is too good, and every team needs a player like him, always there for the team

Exactly. It doesn't really matter who is batting below Kohli if he's just going to keep pumping out runs.

Sir Viv Richards is the fastest to score 4000 runs in 88 innings while Kohli has scored 3863 runs in 86 innings. He needs 137 runs in next match to break the record or in the next 2 matches to equal the record.

Pretty amazing numbers. I just crowned Viv the best ODI player in history - the fact that Kohli can produce just as well is impressive. Not saying Kohli is as good as Viv, there are many factors in play...but to be mentioned in the same breath is praise enough.

Raina has also been pleading for a promotion as of late, really wants that #4 spot.

Tiwary batted a whole lot better than how Rohit has batted throughout this series. The kid needs to be given chances like how Rohit has got so far in his career. I am sure Tiwary will convert it into something substantial. The recent article by Aakash Chopra about Rohit's temperament sums it all up.

Kohli is a son of a gun. Even though he is a hyper aggressive character, he has fortunately kept at his cricket and produced wonderful performances. Hopefully he continues like this and becomes the next legendary Indian cricketer. Kohli has to carry India's torch in test cricket pretty hard in the next 10 years.

In the current setup, the top three spots are reserved for the openers and Kohli. And I would not want Raina to bat higher than Dhoni because that would mean Dhoni faces the death bowlers most often, and at times he clicks and many a time, his big hitting doesn't even come out. Dhoni's game has changed, and he should always bat higher than Raina and not bat at all (like in today's game).

But isn't that the job of a finisher, the finisher in this case being Dhoni ofc.

Kohli is the brightest star for India. He is the batting genius that they needed with the end coming for likes of Sachin. He is definitely the next big thing in batting talent in world cricket atm. He is technically far ahead of many batsmen of this era and he is got a wonderful head on his shoulders. He seems also to be maturing and those wild celebrations/taunts are far less seen. I am sure most teams will target him from now on if they want to halt Indian team.

Kohli is a legend. He is batting brilliantly and breaking so many records. Very good batting by Suresh Raina as well. Rohit? I don't now what problem he is having. I supported him throughout the series and still supporting him but this 4 failures should be enough to get him out of the next match. I would love to see Rahane getting a chance because that fellow has done nothing wrong to not even get a chance to show his talent. Hoping for a same team with swap of Rohit with Rahane.

P.S. Who is Sachin? :D

This is not the way to speak of a player who has carried the Indian team for 2 decades.....

not my words...SaiSrini's words....:p

In fact, those were also Kohli's words when we won the World Cup.:yes

Kholi is certainly a legend in the making, hopefully he can carry on in the test arena.

Kholi>Sachin!

too early..

I second that. I hope what happened to Irfan, after an injury as a player and when he took a lot of advice from different people, doesn't happen to Virat. I remember watching a show talking about a black English cricketer (not being racist. Just want to see if anybody knows him as I can't recollect his name or his looks) who started of on a high and was even said to be considered as Botham's replacement but due to some reasons his form took a huge beating when the show was aired he was on the verge of being shown the door from his domestic side!

Mascarenhas?

Not yet there... Kohli has probably reached 20-25% of where Sachin is right now. Kohli needs more time and performances in the test arena to zoom rapidly ahead.

But I wish he ends up a bigger batsman than Sachin. It will be proud for India only (saying this even though I am a die hard Sachin fanatic).

Mascarenhas?

May be. I don't really know. I watched that episode when Irfan had just started his career and made mark against Pakistan. Tried searching over the net and found Wisden calling Phil DeFreitas as the next Botham. So, he might be the one but I ain't really sure. All I know is that he was a right arm pacer with a huge inswinger and looked faster than military medium to me. I did not use to follow English cricket that much in those days.

Its not about India only, cricket is not confide there only get out of your state. Its good for cricket that Kholi is batting so well, and yes he is far better than Sachin ever was, hell Sachin is highly overrated!

If Virat Kohli achieves the feat of being the fastest man to score 4000 ODI runs, that will be phenomenal. That said, Hashim Amla is another man who looks very good for overhauling that record.

Mascarenhas?

Just had a look at his profile. He is certainly not the one. The video I saw had that man bowling over a batsman with an in dipper in a test match and Dimitri haven't played any test. So, it might well be Phil DeFreitas.
