The article makes it very clear that the doosra and the carrom ball are not the same thing. Ashwin claims to have developed the latter and to be working on the former. Personally I think we could benefit from having a better name for the "carrom ball", and I would also prefer it not to be 'teesra'. Perhaps a Sri Lankan word this time (in honour of Mendis).
Despite popular belief Ashwin hasnt proved himself at the international level as yet, hopefully we get a good look at him for this series. The SL side have some excellent players of spin bowling so it should be a good test for him in what may most likely be spinner friendly conditions.
Why isnt Harbhajan not playing?
We have over the recent past had an aversion to left-arm spinners, especially in ODIs. Pragyan will be a better bet here. The poor chap has not even played since donkeys months. Ashwin, as an all-rounder does score enough brownie points to warrant a place in the XI, howeer, with the inclusion of Irfan, we can totally rule out that angle.
Ashwin is almost playing in his home ground- we cannot expect huge crowds to make the things look like we are away, and the conditions to be absolutely similar to that of Chennai. Ashwin will have a key role to play, I predict that he will be included in all 6 matches.
My XI will be:
Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Virat Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Suresh Raina
MS Dhoni
Irfan Pathan
Ravichandran Ashwin
Zaheer Khan
Umesh Yadav
Ashoke Dinda/Pragyan Ojha
I'd go with 2 spinners tbh, 4 seamers is overdoing it a bit.
One thing: I didn't use CSK term for what you thought (), I was like Dhoni's belief on Ashwin will be greater than anyone else. And I never criticize Ashwin, he is someone who belongs to the international cricket.Ashwin will continue to be castigated and his every non-performance will be scrutinised hard because he is a CSK player. Its been the fashion these days. Ojha has never been an attacking bowler from what I've seen him. In T20's, he picks wickets because the batsmen have to attack him and they perish in the process. And this is only in IPL. In international cricket, Ojha hasn't been a big success because intl batsmen play him better than in IPL.
Absolutely. 4 seamers in Sri Lankan conditions is overkill. We are not playing in Australia or South Africa.

If some batsman would have been picked in place of Rahul Sharma, it'd have looked perfect because I don't see Rahul getting a game anywhere.
That's the selectors fault for not picking him.Ojha has not gotten a game since long. In fact, I really dont recall the last time Prgayan played for India in an ODI. As for the claim of international batsmen playing him better- dont see it- he hasnt gotten many games.
