India's Tour of Sri Lanka

manee, .Mob, I ask these question, because I have looked at Dravid in particular, apart from being out of form, he looks tired, old (no pun intended), you know, like he is more dragging his self than moving himself, the kind of indication that suggest, the need for a time out, but am thinking, at his age, if he gets one or take one and his replacement performs how is that going to work for him.

I guess Dravid himself is clever enough and enough of a team player to perhaps retire if he sees his replacement doing a better job than him, or showing that he is capable of taking over Dravid's mantle as our solid number 3.

Yes, I guess that is what has him going, Lara's record. Question to you, looking at his recent performances and form, not just in this seriesm but previous one as well, you would know much better than me, after he gets the record, do you see someone in India at this time that can or will replace him??
Nope. Sachin has been in really good form recently. In fact, even in this series, though he's been dismissed for less than large scores, he's looked in good touch.

The strange case of Karthik

Dropped catches, missed stumping, shoddy glovework and scores of 9, 0, 7 and 20 - Dinesh Karthik has been an all-round failure in the two Test matches against Sri Lanka. The question isn't really why has he failed; it really is why he continues to get so many chances.

The success with that stroke prompted him to play an even more outrageously fatal shot against off spinner Muthiah Muralitharan that commentator Arun Lal described as "ridiculous".

Why Karthik was preferred to the team's other wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel in the first place isn't easy to fathom. In the IPL, the last competitive tournament that the two played together, there was hardly anything to distinguish between the two. In fact, Patel's record was marginally better in that tournament.

That's a crap article, Nikhil.

First of all, it brings back stuff from the Pakistan series - it was his first bad one! The pitch in which he gave away those byes was an absolute minefield.

In the IPL, Karthik was far far better. Patel's fielding was shoddy, keeping was terrible, but his batting I must admit was good enough. But Karthik did lead Delhi to a few big wins, and was awesome with the gloves against the likes of McGrath and Asif, and tricky customers like Rajat Bhatia and Amit Mishra. He was vice captain too, I think.

In the Australia series, he struck 97 in the only match he played, the tour game.

In the World T20, he played a huge role with his extremely good fielding and breifly with the gloves.

Patel, although a good batsman, is very very very very mediocre with the gloves.

Karthik is miles better.

I agree to some extend, but he (Karthik) is not a good form...which is also mentioned in the article...Finally "Performing consistently on International level matters" and if he is not doing that,India has another option of Patel, thats what the article roughly mentions.

Karthik has only proved himself in 1.5 series. That's not enough to validate the numerous failures that he's racked up. Quite simply, he needs to shape up or he will lose his space to Dhoni or Patel. Probably Dhoni, who is supposed to win the Khel Ratna award this year.

Karthik hasnt been keeping well in the absence of Dhoni. His batting has been pathetic too. The management should give Parthiv a chance in the 3rd test and see how he shapes up.

Anyways, Dhoni is going to claim his place back once he returns with these two being reduced to mere backups. After the start of the series, Dhoni's pull out was viewed with danger coz he might lose his place if these two stand up. But these two are still in the infancy stage after quite a few years of international cricket.

Kirsten to skip third Test

Indian cricket team will be without coach Gary Kirsten in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo as the South African will go home to attend to his critically ill mother.

"Kirsten will not be available for the third Test match as he will be leaving from Colombo for South Africa tonight. There will not be any replacement in his absence," the BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said in a statement on Tuesday.

No matter how poor Parthiv is he is miles better when compared to Kartick in batting and glovework. KKD has lost whatever he had with gloves. Time to do work on keeping rather than batting now for him.

Actually, it's Kaarthik, he added the extra 'A' for numerology reasons or something. It's obviously not working for him :p

His autograph's are Kaarthik too.

Patel same as Dhoni ?

He is possibly the worst one to have kept for India.
Hell, even Ganguly can keep betetr than Patel.:p
