March 11 - Bangladesh vs England

@ Kabooks WTF is so special about one more limited overs tourney......

Brilliant batting from Shafiul. What a great partnership between Mahmudullah and Shafiul. Brilliant game of cricket, just brilliant.

Say what you like about the bowlers, but it's the batting that has cost us.

It reminds me of a few years back, with players getting games because they're mates with the senior players, rather than on ability. Prior and Bell take note.

^ What the hell is so special about Ashes ? No win is worth losing in a way that it 'Kills' my appetite !

You wouldn't understand, it's about tradition, pride, heritage and passion to get one over our biggest rivals in one of the world's oldest sporting traditions. If you offered me a back to back Ashes win or the WC I would take the Ashes everytime

Goodness , if only someone wrote a story in PC about this real time England cricket team . Will bag all the PC awards .

Bit of both for me, and naivety with persisting with failed players and tactics :

- Prior opening, never really works
- Collingwood does nothing again, and while he bowls tightly it is still 24 runs without losing a wicket in a situation we needed wickets
- Throwing away a good position, from 162/3 to 225 all out isn't good enough
- Picking Anderson, another nothing performance
- Lack of a second spinner, I said Tredwell should play

To Sureshot, if your comment about losing this not meaning we are out was aimed in response to me. I didn't say it would mean we were out, my point was a failure to reach the QFs in a group containing IRELAND, HOLLAND and Bangladesh should set alarm bells ringing - we lost to 2/3 of those teams.

Even so, we still have only ONE game against West Indies which we could easily lose, everyone else has 2-3 games and we're in trouble. It's like England in Euro 2000, beating the germans then losing to Romania - except worse! Not convincing even in victory, no good Strauss trying to make it sound not so bad, the squad is awful and performances equally so.

We need new selectors, a new captain and a lot of the same faces have to go. We get bowled out embarrassingly for low totals in Tests, we win the odd Ashes but don't beat top teams regularly and are up and down in ODIs, yet still you see Strauss, Bell, Cook, Collingwood, Pietersen, Prior and Anderson in every f in XI............ :mad Anyone concluded that consistently selecting the same names might be linked?!?! They did enough to win the Ashes, but maybe more down to aussie problems and the format, it sure as hell ain't working in ODIs.

Seems Bob Willis is bemoaning the fielding again, I wish Sky would put him in a retirement home.

Opening with Prior was always going to be a mistake. Bell is just annoying me, take some responsibility.

The bowling was pretty abject in places, most notably Anderson and I don't think Bresnan was very good at the death either.

I suppose what annoys people that most is that this isn't likely to see new players come through. I don't think Prior has done himself any favours for ODI cricket, Tests are a different kettle of fish, though it doesn't seem England treat the two disciplines differently.

The balance of the side is still all wrong along with senior players not stepping up to the mark.

We need a break from cricket, going home early from the WC might give us a bit more of a break that we so obviously need.

Owzat, was a general statement. If we beat WI, we still qualify, all I was stating. I'm not claiming that's a good thing, I think we've been dire and agree with pretty much everything you've said.

Yeah...Yeah.....it's all about Sour grapes

Seems like England are entrusted to do the 'Thrillers' job for the ICC where they create exciting games with their poor performance. Had SA not imploded after such a good position, England's plight would have been worser. Now they have to beat WI to qualify for the quarters (since Bangladesh has Netherlands in their radar). If England lose to WI, they have to pray Bangladesh lose to both Netherlands and South Africa. Sad task! I am guessing things dont look good at all for England.

Ashes has it's own place in Test Cricket but World Cup has it's own in ODI Cricket. I don't think any other country except Australia and England cares about Ashes while all the countries are waiting for World Cup to come because it's the biggest tournament for them as it is WORLD CUP, the cup that counts!

Cricket was built on Ashes cricket.

J/K : I know what Ashes is all about and the legendary rivalry that the two nations share.

But seriously, England is the classiest team of them all (My personal favorite after India) & they manage to commit Harakiri against almost every minnow in the WC.

Gonna go and watch Lock Stock, Snatch, Football Factory & Hooligans to calm the nerves.

Why dont you just play the Ashes then? Why play any other format of cricket? Ashes is filled with a huge baggage of tradition, but its time England start respecting other formats (and other series/tournaments too). Winning only the Ashes wont make you World Champions even in test cricket (of course that will make you play the "this rankings system is flawed" card).

for them, its the biggest series / tournament. definitely holds more interest than the WC.

its the ashes for the poms and the aussies how india vs pakistan is to us.

India vs Pakistan is not as important to us that we dont care about any other defeats. We care about being World champions and being the best in the world. And with Pakistan not being the same team as they used to be before, India vs Pakistan rivalry is not up there anymore.

Exactly and fair enough, why should India or South Africa etc care about England vs Australia?

Shut up you fool, no where have I said that we didn't deserve to lose, we have been appaling, all was being said was that for the English fans and most the Aussie fans I imagine, the Ashes are far bigger. Go back to hit and giggle cricket with the rest of your childish friends if you can't even form a proper opinion except coming out with one line of rubbish like that!

Of course we care about other formats/games, God it's seems like quite a few members have been taking stupid pills. All that was said was that it's not a total disaster for us as if we had played like this in the Ashes as they matter a lot more. Jeezo some people....:facepalm
