New Zealand in Bangladesh, October 2010/11

Hmmm, feel the same way guys. Why do we have to play these jokers so often? I'm not saying they don't have a chance in beating us but it's fecking over kill!

It almost seems as though we play them every year. The selectors always choose a series against Bangladesh to try out a new player. They then do well against them, they're hailed as a future star player, they get selected against a proper cricket team and then proceed to fail as they get ripped apart. It's good for Bangladesh I suppose....

what was the point of scheduling these tests if they were just going to duck out of them?

it's not like no one knew there was a world cup early 2011. Pakistan and NZ have dropped a test as well.

BCB are silly imo, they are in good test form, shakib will be coming to the team having played in a proper FC tournament (in similarish conditions to NZ) they have played india and england recently and at time competed well. NZ would not have put up the same fight and have not played a test in a while, there was getting to be a realistic chance of winning one of these which is much more important to bangladesh's status than the WC, which they don't have a chance in.

I'm sick of playing Bangladesh. We seem to have to play them well over our quota. ASome better opponents would be nice. We're 2nd in the world for ODIs atm or around there so it's not like we should be treated like minnows.

In a way it's a shame the ICC keep wiping off tests however playing Bangladesh in tests is a bit of a waste of time to be blatantly honest.

on this point I totally agree. Right now the test arena seems sewn up by england, india, and australia. South Africa are the opponents de jour but I don't think they have that much say. SL are the same as you guys in the test arena, and yet they get to play india and erm, india. (and bangladesh sometimes)

Australia aren't interested in sri lanka and have played two tests against them in something like 7 years, india aren't interested in the windies and are much the same. England do their bit for everyone to be fair.

Bdesh played NZ back in 07/08, home away, home away. 2 Years later, they are playing each other again. Bdesh already toured NZ earlier this year, now NZ is visiting Bdesh on a returning series. How is that every year? :sarcasm

Every team suppose to play every other team at home 1s and away 1s, unless you are Team of India. (they seem to use "of" a lot)

No one wants to play us except Bangladesh :(

that's 2 times a year then, which is even more annoying. if you consider other countries coming to NZ its usually every 3-4 years.

West Indies comes here quite often.

This is apparently a 'live topic', any idea what that is?

It's always the lower ranked teams that come here so we don't get much good competition

This series should be treated just like the tri-series, just swap out Ross Taylor and Scott Styris for McCullum and Vettori.

Oh well, it will at least give some of the guys a real good opportunity to boost their averages.

In a way, countries haven't really visited NZ in ages. But with the World Cup there in 2015, expect more and more nations to tour NZ as they would need to get acclimatised to the situations.
I would'nt be surprised if the BCCI strikes a pact with NZC which is similar to the one they have struck with Sri Lanka recently.

NZ squad been announced: Bangladesh v New Zealand: Injured Scott Styris misses Bangladesh tour | Cricket News | Bangladesh v New Zealand | Cricinfo.com

Daniel Vettori (capt), Hamish Bennett, Grant Elliott, Brendon McCullum (wk), Nathan McCullum, Andy McKay, Kyle Mills, Jesse Ryder, Aaron Redmond, Tim Southee, Shanan Stewart, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson.

Interesting move to see Bennett there. Redmond and Stewart have been recalled too. Guptill's off with NZ A for a bit as well. Hopefully Williamson performs here :)

If the selectors want to look even more like jokers than they already do, they should pick Guptill for our next test series, while he's not in the ODI team. :yes

TBH I can't see why you would drop him under a year out from the WC.
We're going to be playing on five roads, against Bangladesh, perfect time to get some form back.

I can't really see Bennett playing, as we have four pace bowlers there ahead of him, plus two spinners.

I'm not really sure what they're going to try with the line-up, considering we're missing our two genuine pace AR's, Oram and Styris. I don't really see any players there who can play that Styris role as well as he did, unless Elliot/Ryder are back bowling properly now.

Without Hopkins now, it does open up a spot in our lower order however.

I'd be looking at going something like this:

1. Jesse Ryder
2. Brendon McCullum (wk)
3. BJ Watling
4. Ross Taylor
5. Kane Williamson
6. Grant Elliott
7. Daniel Vettori (c)
8. Nathan McCullum
9. Kyle Mills
10/11. Two of Andy McKay/Tim Southee/Daryl Tuffey

Bench:

Aaron Redmond
Shanan Stewart
Hamish Bennett
One of McKay/Southee/Tuffey

Five ten over bowling options, plus Williamson/Ryder/Elliott as cover.
Vettori/N. McCullum combo at 7/8 provides decent batting down the order, and the top six are all more or less specialist ODI batsmen.

They'll probably try something stupid however, and play Vettori and McCullum at 6/7, and play four specialist bowlers, the sort of fail stuff they tried in the tri-series.

For the WC, Oram and N. McCullum will be going for one spot, and Guptill/Watling/Williamson/Elliott for two spots, assuming Styris is back.
