New Zealand in Bangladesh, October 2010/11

As we talked about this during 2nd ODI win vs Eng, Ashrful was in the playing XI for 90% of the wins. But he was only MoM 2ic. :laugh

On rest, he failed big time.

IMO a full strength NZ is one of the best ODI sides in the world.
McCullum, Ryder, Styris, Taylor, Oram, Vettori, Mills
Chuck in a couple of younger guys, and all of a sudden you've got one of the better ODI sides going around.

McCullum and Ryder are statically one of the best opening pairs going around.
Since Ryder debuted, they've been the third most successful ODI opening pair. Ahead of them are G Gambhir, V Sehwag and TM Dilshan, WU Tharanga.

Styris and Taylor are both very good ODI players, pretty much your ideal ODI batsmen, can work it around if needed, but then can also bring out the big hits. (10th best 4th wicket partnership in the game since Taylor debuted, not great, but they're better players than that)

Oram, Vettori and Mills are three of the better ODI bowlers going around.
No one talks about how Oram's E/R over the last five years is yet to go over 4.32, IMO if it wasn't for all of his injuries, he's be one of the best AR's in the game. A very underrated bowler.
Just go look at Vettori and Mills stats, both among the top five ODI bowlers in the world.

Over the last five years, the list of best E/R's from top eight countries who've taken at least 50 wickets goes:

Pollock, Vettori, McGrath, Oram, Murali, Mendis, Bond, Vaas, Harbhajan, Hopes

Now lets go to average, same criteria:

No way, look at that, Mills in fourth.
If you take the criteria out to 100 wickets, look at that, Mills has been consistently the best strike bowler in the world for the last five years.

fling I just get pissed off when people say NZ is ████ at ODI's because they are rubbish at tests, and I'll admit they are rubbish at tests, but I'd be quite confident in saying that they would be in my top four, maybe my top three ODI teams in the world. (Yes, ahead of India!)

Why does everyone always stick up for us saying we are a good side. We are rubbish apart from Vettori, Taylor & Mills (maybe). Guys like Styris and Oram are a complete waste of space. Better off getting in Corey Anderson and Williamson instead. I seriously think Bangladesh could win this series they have a promising fast bowling attack and some good batsman. They really should've won one of the tests and the ODI series when we were there last time.

How can you say Oram is a waste of space?
Did you even read what I said?

Over the last five years, the list of best E/R's from top eight countries who've taken at least 50 wickets goes:

Pollock, Vettori, McGrath, Oram, Murali, Mendis, Bond, Vaas, Harbhajan, Hopes

In terms of E/R's over the last five years he's ahead of Murali, Bond, Vaas, plus a whole host of players.
What a waste of space he is.

Yeah, since Ryder debuted, him and McCullum are the third best ODI opening partnership, you obviously didn't read anything I said, so don't even bother replying with joke comments like that.

Corey Anderson hasn't done crap at the domestic level, the guys got some talent, but you can't just put him in against Bangladesh when he has done crap all. You saw what happened to Williamson, and he has actually done a hell of a lot a the doemstic level, and you want to put in someone based 100%, yes 100% on potential.

How can you say maybe Mills isn't rubbish, have you even looked at the stats, Mills has been consistently the best strike bowler in the world for the last five years!

Before you post ████ like that, actually have something to back up your argument.

Another stat for you, in the 52 ODI matches Vettori, McCullum, Mills, Oram and Styris have played together in, our win loss record is over 2 to 1.
That only includes nine matches against the non major eight teams, so actually have something to base your argument on, before you give me that ████.
If you add Taylor in that list, so in 20 odd ODI matches Vettori, McCullum, Mills, Oram, Styris and Taylor have played together, our win loss record is pretty much 3 to 1.

Hmmm ok Im sorry for lashing out a bit. The problem I have is more to do with the laziness of these players. Oram can't even last five minutes on the park and i dont really think we miss him that much when he ain't there. Styris is also very lazy and is too overweight. My point is that I really want to see some fit young guys given a go (especially against Bangladesh) who are in a state to play international cricket rather than other guys just in it for the money.

Yeah, I agree with you there.
Hopefully Williamson can make a decent impression.
Not sure how old Burson is though, maybe they should of gone with Boult.
I think after the WC when Oram and Styris retire, you'll get your wish.
ATM I'd say they still have a bit more to offer the ODI game, but after the WC I'm pretty sure they'll both be gone.

Styris is also very lazy and is too overweight.

so in that case Ryder shouldn't be playing for NZ either :sarcasm. I'm not sure why you think Styris is lazy he might be off the field but on it he is anything but.

yeah ryder has hardly played in the last year probably due to his fitness, and was badly missed. Yeah Styris actually did play real good in that series versus aussies but could do with losing some weight.

This should be their line up. Shahriar Nafees and Razzak should just stay the fearsome tweak away. But I doubt it will happen.

The counts Corey Anderson out then.

I suppose corey anderson wasn't a good example but at least he is young and has lots ahead of him. Btw Does anyone know where Trent Boult is? was he injured or something cause he didn't play much last season did he?

I think he was injured for part of the season. Not 100% sure on that though.

I feel that Jamie How must come back for New Zealand, especially seeing his form in the current Champions League. ODI cricket is different then Twenty20 cricket, but still he should get a chance.

Maybe he will be selected for the tour to India.

I've just found out that a guy I know from school is doing the Cricinfo commentating and scoring! I'll be reading this on Cricinfo as well as watching it live I think :)
