Pakistan Tour of Australia 2009/10

Not having Younus Khan will be a big handicap. What was the point of sending him to play for South Australia in the SS if he is not even in the Test team for this tour :doh

As Ponting gets older - he's 35 now- he may find the short ball troubling, but in his career he without peer as a hooker and puller, many many many fast bowlers have failed miserably trying to bounce him out. Its one of cricket's greatest sights- seeing Punter tear apart the opening bowlers at no. 3 with a barrage of pulls and glorious drives.

Agree, still the only way he will be troubled by the short ball is from an express quick. The 140km/h guys will just be smashed to the fence, he may mistime one and they may get him but its a gamble that has been tried many times and Ponting usually comes out on top. Sharma also gave him trouble with the shortish stuff and Harmison in 05 did likewise. So height at about 145km/h or express like Roach are the ones that trouble him.

Because
A) Our country is made up of morons
B) Our team is made up of overjealous people
C) Our team wants to be as lazy as possible and not made to work
D) Discipline is seen as punishment without cause
E) Our cricket board is made up of morons

Do I need to continue?

Ponting-Khawaja
Katich-Hughes
Hussey-Ferguson/Klinger

Could also add Mitch Marsh, Cosgrove, Cooper.

Looks pretty right gents. Rogers and Dave Hussey would probably be considered too old to fill those roles.

Also add Cameron White and George Bailey into the mix. White will parlay his much improved ODI batting, captaincy experience and his slip catching into a Test spot in the near future. Bailey will get closer once he gets a spot in the ODI squad. He'll have to beat out Voges for it. Shaun Marsh has played well in WA's last couple of games, but I'd like to see him make a LOT more Shield runs before I'd be mentioning him for a Test spot.

So my Test team with a top 7 of players born in the 80s might look like:
Hughes
Watson
Klinger/Khawaja
Clarke (c)
White/Bailey (or Marcus North could keep his spot, despite being born in 1979)
Cosgrove
Hartley (wk) (Tim Paine probably has the inside track though)

Also saw a nice quote today from Kim Hughes, about his namesake Phil Hughes:
"Phil Hughes is very promising but with a severe technical deficiency he needs to overcome," 70-Test Hughes said.
"I know people who come from New South Wales think everything is good out of New South Wales but there are other players.
"I would have thought the bloke who looks most technically efficient for Test cricket is Chris Rogers."

Kim Hughes expects fire from Pakistan - Australia - Fox Sports

Congratulations to Richard Earle who found an ex-player who wouldn't say that Hughes was treated harshly or that the selectors were smoking blah blah. It seems like every week there's been a story by a desperate journalist quoting ex-players about Phil Hughes and how the selectors treated him harshly. It was months ago journos - get over it

I personally hope Hughes gets to play this Test. I'd love to see his technique against the short ball really tested and hopefully he comes through well, as he's a great kid to watch bat.

Mohammad Sami is still in Pakistan :D

I did read in the newspaper that Pakistan are contemplating playing both Ajmal and Kaneria, with Aamir and Asif the 2 pacemen.

This could be a very successful or a very disasterous plan for Pakistan (if this is indeed what they decide to go with).

I really hope they don't do that.

rewind back to the india series 2 years ago. india lost the first two tests playing two quicks and two spinners. the 3rd test was a lot faster so they played 3 quicks and 1 spinner with australia playing 4 quicks.

now, say what you like about the quality of each player in the attack, that tait was rubbish, or whatever, but in each of the first 3 tests it was the balanced attack that won, the 3 quicks, 1 spinner one.

2 spinners are needed on the sub continent because pace bowling becomes ineffective and it's hot so the spinners need to bowl all day. In australia quick bowling will always offer something, need to play 3 quicks.

Major reason for including two spinners is may be Yousaf feels that Aussies are pretty much rookies when it comes to play against good spinners.
Still I think there is no need for two spinners instead this a normal 3 Fast and 1 Spinner attack will be enough for Aussies and one of the major to point to highlight is that Rauf deserve more then Ajmal in the first test.

We're good for keepers though. Don't see the point on playing Manou continuously though, he's not going to be around for long after Haddin.

Wade, Paine and Hartley probably the best. That's in order IMO

Future fast bowlers:

Hazlewood
Cutting
Walter
Cockley

Future Spinners
Smith
Holland
Bailey

Future Batsmen
Marshes
Hughes
Warner
Khawaja
Cosgrove

Plus Cameron White, to round it off. He's a much better captain than Clarke IMO.

I hope the commentators don't pray for Katich to bowl again, whenever no wicket falls, they just start bagging Ponting for not using Katich.

It's still freaking hot though

I haven't seen snow for 3 years :crying

That's why pitches in Australia crack, we get dry heat here, instead of the humid conditions you get elsewhere.

Also our ozone layer is broken :doh

Of course they will, there is some major Katich lovin in the box.

Reading some comments from a Victorian fan, hes thinking David Hussey great hand-eye coordination is starting to leave him which is starting to expose his lack of footwork. I reckon that is the main thing the selectors have been looking at with him and hence hes never come into Test calculations.

Brisbane is pretty humid. Plus Tasmania gets 13 degree cold rain days, even in summer. :D

DAWN.COM | Sport | Sami to leave for Australia today
While Sami is going from Pakistan, Abdur Rauf is already in the squad but remained untested so far.
Sami is likely to play the first Test in place of Umar, who is facing some fitness problems, as Rauf is likely to remain untested despite showing good performances in the side matches in New Zealand and now against Tasmania. He captured seven wickets in two matches including four scalps in New Zealand.

so better play a tested and failed bowler[Sami] than an untested one [Rauf]... can't understand the logic there....
