Pakistan Tour of Australia 2009/10

Ferguson? eww

His technique is horrible, just puts the bat out there.

He will be another version of Michael Bevan.

If Ferguson was fully fit, would he have been the man to replace Ponting?

Watching the replays of Khawaja batting, he looks really elegant. (Did I say he can play the Pull Shot ).

They plan on bowling bouncers to Ponting, and their fastest bowler...pfft. Asif he'd scare Ponting. Bowling them to Hughes, smart.

Hoping Hughes plays, and this talk about Watson being our future opener, I reckon he's as good a no 3 as any to take over Ponting in the future. Cosgrove as mentioned above, needs to get off the pies. We have a lot of young blood, I'm honestly not worried about our retirements coming in the near future.

That's just a Cricinfo article - Pakistan haven't directly said that they're going to be bowling short at Ponting (although I know Aamer and Gul will - if he plays).

Ponting will only be troubled if the short pitch is consistently above 145ks and touching 150+ (like Roach, who got him 3 times and a retired out)

Neither Aamir or Gul can consistently touch those speeds with their short balls. Also Roach bowled a beautiful bodyline and was very accurate with his short pitch. Id back Aamir to be a bit more accurate but we all know that Gul is neither accurate nor quick.

Aamer averages about 143-145, and has hit 153-154 kph in NZ.

So for Aamer, it is possible to get Ponting with the short ball - Gul has the capability to bowl at those speeds, but he has been well, crap lately so I doubt he'll even be playing - it seems as though Abdur Rauf will take his place at the Boxing Day Test.

I watched the entire Test series against NZ, its starts at 4pm here. I never once saw Aamir touch 150, but maybe I just missed it.

Gul sure does have the capability to bowl 145 plus (like when he broke Sarwans toe) but it has been a long time since he has touched those speeds, and when he does get it up that fast its usually way too full. Also Guls bouncer looked really short and inaccurate during the NZ series. I really hope they drop him, but at the same time dont want to see a rusty Sami coming in to give away free runs either.

My money is probably on Kaneria to be the leading Pakistani wicket taker, followed closely by Asif.

I liked what I saw from Rauf. He will compliment Asif and Aamer really well. Rauf seems to be a good containment bowler, who stops the runs, while his partner at the other end, can attack. Asif will be much better with Rauf, because the batsman might try to play some shots with the runs being dry, and with his line and length, wicket's would be sure to come. Aamer could also be more aggressive with Rauf in the team for the same reason, as the batsman might play some false strokes and risk giving away their wicket.

As Ponting gets older - he's 35 now- he may find the short ball troubling, but in his career he without peer as a hooker and puller, many many many fast bowlers have failed miserably trying to bounce him out. Its one of cricket's greatest sights- seeing Punter tear apart the opening bowlers at no. 3 with a barrage of pulls and glorious drives.

Mohammad Sami is still in Pakistan :D

Insomniac added 2 Minutes and 22 Seconds later...

I did read in the newspaper that Pakistan are contemplating playing both Ajmal and Kaneria, with Aamir and Asif the 2 pacemen.

This could be a very successful or a very disasterous plan for Pakistan (if this is indeed what they decide to go with).

Might not be a bad idea to play 2 spinners at Sydney and maybe Melbourne even. Very rare for a team to have both a quality leggie and offie (who can bowl a wicked doosra)

And then we lose Aamer to an injury midway through the test.

Yousuf bowling with the new ball anyone? :p

If Afridi was in the team, then things would be very interesting as he would provide the balance the team needs (or even Razzaq, or Younus Khan - he can bowl medium pacers).
