He opened the gate; I can't say it was a worse shot than Hughes'. Just because one could have been left, doesn't mean the other was indefensible. Drives are drives, that's the risk they carry.

I do wonder what is a good score. At Brisbane last summer, 200 was plenty, but I'm not sure if this is as tricky. If anything I would say there is extra bounce; a few lbw shouts going over the top and some big bouncers (Gul must have been shaking his head when North pulled for 4, almost off his visor); not to mention the batsmen top-edging their horizontal shots. There has been sideways movement, but is it going to be the defining characteristic?
