Pakistan tour of New Zealand 2009

Even if NZ bowl Pakistan out for less than 200 more from here it will be at least 5 sessions to save the match. Kaneria was starting to get really good turn before the innings ended.

Kiwis pray for rain

Too bad the rain is in Auckland right now. :(

I'm hoping it rains as a selfish NZ supporter. If we can draw this there's a good chance we'll win the series. Napier should be pretty flat. Then again our batting is woeful and we'll probably lose that too.

Good ball O'Blog. Never gives up.

McCullum was the most unforgivable, what the hell kind of shot was that for a 1st ball with your team in the middle of a collapse. Someone needs to remind him that this is not KKR, these games actually matter.

Never seen such lack of respect for ones wicket with the exception of Chris Gayle

Ridiculous batting from NZ. 99.... thats it! Given the way the Kiwi team is hyped here, I expected more :sarcasm

Hyped? It's the opposite. The NZ team is written off and basically reguarded as a minnow. Hyped in ODI/T20s perhaps but it's backed up by good performances (notably recently making the champions trophy final). No one hypes the test side.

Our good batsmen had a bad day and our bad batsmen did what they normally do and scored no runs.

That's the one, and for the record our good batsmen are Ross Taylor and Daniel Vettori. If they don't score runs with this current XI it's pretty much game over.

I've given it some thought and the only change I actually see happening for the third test will be Broom in for one of Fulton or Elliott. After that third test though I'd expect to see a few more changes when Bangladesh get here

- Ryder should hopefully be back
- McIntosh will be dropped for one of either Brodie or Watling, 99% sure it will be Watling
- Elliott's posistion will most likely go to Broom with Ryder being the 5th bowler

1.Guptill
2.Watling
3.
4.Taylor
5.Ryder
6.Broom
7.McCullum
8.Vettori
9.Bond
10.O'Brien
11.Martin

I really have no idea who'll replace Flynn (he'll most likely be dropped). Do we go back to Sinclair for a year until someone else is ready, or do we play someone with a future? It's a shame Myburgh hasn't qualified yet to play for New Zealand. Merchant perhaps, he's a bloody good batsmen but he's probably a fair way away from test standard (yea I know, who is).

Rather then name someone I'll leave it up for debate and let you guys pick holes at the rest of my team.

Flynn has 1 more innings this test. If he doesn't score big then he should be immediately dropped. Flynn and Fulton also who is probably close both have had LBW issues and they've been exploted time and time again. Both are specialist batsmen so if they can't perform then there's really nothing they can fall back on. Flynn 26 innings especially. The guy is only 24. Send him back to score runs domestically, tell him to work on the playing around his pad problem, get tim working with Stephen Fleming perhaps who had to deal with similar issues at times and is also a left hander and then maybe bring him back.

Fulton i'd be more inclined to give another chance purely because Flynn has had 26 innings yet his domestic record is substantially worse. How is that fair? I think it's bullshit. But Fulton needs to start making a claim for himself. So long as he doesn't get out LBW for another single digit score i'd probably give him the third test at #3 where he bats for Canterbury. If Flynn can have 26 chances with his poor domestic record then why can't one of the more prolific scorers have more chances.

For Flynn bring in Sinclair and put him in at 5 possibly. It's been another 2 years and we have no one better in the country for scoring big runs. He's vastly experienced. It's just whether he finally clicks mentally like he did when he started out. If he does it could start something.

Next issue is an opener. McIntosh 15 innings. He does have a hundred which means it's fair enough he gets a decent go. But he's got to start being more aggressive. He just deadbats everything. 30 off 130 balls or whatever it was last game was just too much pissing around. Some players have hundreds off 130 balls and 95% of them have fifties. Being able to survive 130 balls and bat time is great, especially for an opener, but he can't be putting pressure on at the other end and letting bowlers dictate. His technique is also questionable at times. I'd give him the third test and hope for something of substance. Otherwise back to domestic to work on his game.

Guptill is still new really. He's looked pretty good half the time and terrible the other half. However a lot of times he gets out playing stupid pull/hook shots. If we give him more chances and he settles in then he'll be fine. He deserves more chances. Potential-wise he should be there. Maybe he could be put at number 3. It's another option. And then we need another opener.

Elliot deserves a few more chances. Maybe not quite at test standard at the moment.

Highly likely scenario injuries pending. I back that side. I'd go for Sinclair. He really should hammer Bangladesh in home conditions. No one has played more cricket on these pitches than he has i'm sure. It might be the confidence he needs.

I still think they will go back to Franklin if/when he is fit I don't think they will go with Ryder as the 5th bowler.

Going with a Fully fit side I would do somthing like:

1: Watling
2: Guptill
3: Broom
4: Taylor
5: Ryder
6: McCullum
7: Franklin
8: Vettori
9: Bond
10: O'Brien
11: Martin

What a comeback!!Very disappointed with how day1 went but we came back pretty well. Its safe to say we arent the only team that crumbles unexpectedly. The game seems to be in the bag, I hope we dont screw ourselves again. Very unlikely for NZ to even draw the game unless it rains. How the weather there now?

It was only two years ago when Bangladesh last toured New Zealand and Sinclair couldn't even buy a run against them. I remember one innings where he was dropped four times and only made it to 35.

Howsie added 0 Minutes and 36 Seconds later...

It should be fine for the final three days.
