South Africa in England

i still think that vaughan had his fingers under it, everyone thought it was a catch, except the south africa coach and captain, but they shouldnt be able to affect whats going on in the middle, it took 1 minute and 20 seconds to call him back!!!! he was bloody out!!!

Vaughan is a cheat.
Like De Villiers it was clear is was grounded.

Completely different circumstances. AB dropped the catch and the ball rolled along the ground, Vaughan got his fingers under the ball, it was a clean catch. I don't care what the view from behind suggested. His fingers were under the ball, so how could the ball touch the ground as well? Unless his fingers are microns thick. Oh well, benefit of doubt to the batsman.

We have got three big wickets, I think tomorrow should be better for bowling than tonight's sunshine. Anderson and Flintoff bowled very well. Pattinson and Broad didn't bowl many overs between them. 7 overs.

We're still well in this game.

S.Harmison (Deserves another chance his County Form Proves This)

His county form proves nothing, he can't tour due to his mental state, he should never don the Lions again. He can't cope with it.

Time for Flintoff to step up here his pace and bounce vs Amla will be interesting.

This is where England Lack Harmison or Jones though in the Pace and Bounce category.

Yeah i just think that its a bit unfair on S.Jones that because Flintoff got pissed and fell off Pedalo's pissed hes hailed as a bigger Hero.

England could create problems here and could start a mini collapse i cant see Amla lasting long.

Is it me or is Broad a bit of a waste of time.

I mean 6 foot 6 inches and is a gentle medium fast bowler.

He should be 90mph+.

And i know pace is not everything (McGrath is the prime example) but Broad does not get that much bounce, Seam,Swing or anything.

I just feel at 6 foot 6 Inches he should be a Harmison type.

yea he is 6 foot 6 and about 140 pounds lol. he needs to add some muscles to that frame to be able to bowl faster.

Yeah but the Vaughan one was clearly grounded as well.

I know that a drop like that you know you have dropped it.

Wow somebody has finally recognized John Batty, I've been talking about him in keeping debates for ages! He's probably a tad to old now though

Big article in the Wisden Cricketer on keeping, interviewee is Alec Stewart. He said Batty was close to a call for Sri Lanka. I would be happy to see him behind the stumps. Solid keeper, and he opens for Surrey, so he must be a genuine batsman. His stats back him up, too.

KP, India, Lords.

Oh and opinions.

I believe that from both angles the ball was clearly grounded.

KP, 20 seconds later

Amla, almost a minute and a half

and if you think that they were 'clearly grounded' then your a bit of a fool who is either blind or stupid or both, it was inconclusive either way and everyone on the field was happy with the decision

This is why I love it when we play away from Lords. There has been more excitement in this first day at Headingley than in the entire 10 days of test cricket played at Lords this summer.

By any means that was out,if we are talking about cricket.
As Sureshot has said his fingers were under the ball and I don't see any logic by which Ball has grounded.
If that was benefit of Doubt then What was happen in Cook's case?

Because that Stupid decision has ruined England's top order and their momentum.
though these are all part of the game and I except it kindly.

But Still it was out!!!

it wasn't out and the decision was correct. vaughan fingers were fully extended and quarter of the ball was out of his hands, in this circumstance it is impossible to take a catch with fingertips or just end of the fingers. guys need to visualise it scientifically instead of what was visible from behind camera.

Slow motion replays of this type of catch always look not out, inconclusive at best. The cameras aren't good enough to be able to make a clear judgement.

What is appaling is how the situation occured. After the catch was taken, the umpires were happy and Amla walked off until Smith intervened. This intervention forced the umpires to go to the third umpire - if this isn't a referral, I don't know what is. As all catches of this type look inconclusive, he was given the benefit of the doubt. But it should not be up to the batting captain to decide whether or not it goes to the third umpire. If the umpires are happy, it should stand. Could Vaughan have kicked up a fuss and rescued Cook after his poor decision earlier in the day?

England are in a good position here. we'll have to bowl well no doubt but the pitch is hardly going to flatten out like at Lords so we're still in it for sure. Then again you're never out with Fred.

Someone needs to get superteds opening scene and change the words with superfred :D

Given the shape of a ball, if a quarter of the ball was out of his hand, it wouldn't be touching the ground with his fingers underneath the ball.

right then, cook was out when he shouldn't have been so surely it is only right for the England selectors to replace him in the team with someone we have never heard off. At least, thats what they did for colly so i assume he's going to be treated like the others

Oh and as soon as colly's fit from his operation, i expect to come straight back into the team. At least, thats what they dif for Freddie, so i assume he's going to be treated like the others

I loathe the selectors:D

exactly also cricket ball unlike tennis ball might stick to hand as it has better grip. he didn't had his fingers underneath the ball that is what i said. he half caught it. .rather dropped it or in cricketing sense it wasn't clean and he wan't in control of it completely without a single molecule of the ball touching the ground or grass or surface.
