Sri Lanka in Australia Dec-Jan 2012/13

Sri Lanka seem to have come out in 'self-destruct' mode today.

I don't think I've seen a such awful play combined with such bad luck before.

sri lanka have looked clueless with the bat and largely hopeless with the ball, they've also suffered three injuries, run themselves out and messed up several times in the field.

and there goes another, prasad looked like he wanted to get out that over. very good.

Impressive win by Australia. Can't believe how many players injured this match.

I wonder if Watson will be put out to pasture sooner rather than later.

He's a great player - probably Aussies most reliable bowler over the past few years, but he just can't seem to stay fit.

Well that has to be one of the most lop sides boxing days test since the tradition began in 1968:facepalm

I & i'm sure many other expected australia to topple sri lanka - but not this comfortably especially given the experience int he batting ranks. After all it was only a year ago the sri lanka won a test in south africa.

This Sri Lanka team is not the worst team to tour australia, but they are playing like one of the worst.

As that cricinfo article rightfully mentions as i reasoned after the south africa series, such a easy series vs sri lanka & a what should be a less the threatening sub-continent india series challenge really is not going to tell australia much going into the ashes double headers sadly.

But the selectors could make the india series difficult if they coeup with dumb selection. Why in god's name is john inverarity trying to outdow andrew hilditch type crap selections. What is Maxwell doing in the test team & why is clarke talking him up as a potential 2nd spinner options for the inida tour???:facepalm *sighs*

Talk about over-complicating selections. AUS dont have spinners of the standard of swann & monty. In case they forget england win was the first time that two-spinners combined to beat india @ home since they became a force @ home in the 1970s - other than iqbal qasim/tauseef ahemd in 1987.

Otherwise pace wins in india - which australia have in abundance. India's batting is in decline, no dravid,, laxman, etc around - more reasons why aus main wicket-taking options in should be this simple option.

On Shane Watson - fact is he is an all-rounder. If it is his body fails to stand up to the role like flintoff & cairns then so be it - but its suits australia best if he plays as an all-rounder.

I bet chandimal will come in, score a decent 50 or something and the selectors can all slap their heads with their hands and wonder why they've been giving a run to karunarante when chandimal had shown signs of quality in the test format.

If maxwell replaces hussey after this test I will cry.

Hope you've got the tissues ready...

I wonder if Clarke will rest in Sydney now that the series is won. If he believes in 'player management', then he shouldn't be forcing his tender hamstring in a dead Test when there is a bunch of cricket on the horizon. It might even let Mike Hussey captain his final Test :thumbs

Another reason to rest Clarke would be a potentially leftastic team of Warner, Cowan, Hughes, Khawaja, Hussey, Wade, Johnson, Starc and then 3 pesky right handers in Siddle, Lyon and Bird.

Playing 5 frontline bowlers against a team we just bowled out for a combined total of under 300 last Test. Good move! :rolleyes

Well that wouldn't help only having 5 specialist batsmen. We've been known to roll over on good pitches.
