Sri Lanka in Australia Dec-Jan 2012/13

Cowan, Warner, hughes, Khawaja, Hussey, Wade, Starc.

Is Jackson Bird a left hander?

It would of been funny to choose Johnson. Add in another damn lefty.

I hope Siddle plays in Melbourne and Sydney. He's got a fair bit of time between now and Boxing Day. He can rest for the ODI. I think the selectors see him as a Test bowler, or at least that is what the Channel 9 commentary team say.

Turns out they actually did select Johnson for the squad...

Surely, they can't rest Siddle.

That would leave a debut, Starc and Johnson. That's exactly how it was in perth.

Nah they would rest Starc first before they rested Siddle. And they may do that if they feel 2 left armers isn't the right balance for the MCG. That way Starc could come back fresh for SCG - making him play back to back Tests may not be smart. We'll see what the fitness 'gurus' think anyway...

One thing about Starc is...yet again he's knocked over the tail. His bowling seems to improve a lot when he knows that he's on top ie. he bowling to crappy batsmen. Perhaps the young lad just needs a little more self belief and confidence and he could bowl that way to the top order as well.

Great to finally have an Aussie win this summer! Main difference between Adelaide and Hobart I feel was having Shane Watson there as that extra bowler, meant the pressure could be built for longer and Siddle wasn't quite so stuffed by the end. Lyon will again have questions asked about him. I thought he was OK - a little unlukcy too, he had a couple that could have easily been out on another day eg. Samaraweera was very lucky when he batpadded one up into his elbow and it went straight down on the pitch instead of to short leg. Clarke dropped Sanga of course. And I still think Clarke could show a little bit more confidence in Lyon, doesn't seem to back him as much as he might.

haha the wickie bowls decent fast medium

Hey yeah, Wade was great! Up at 130kph. Would love to see him and MS Dhoni have a bowl off. Made sense for Hughes to jump in as keeper too, he was a WK during his junior cricket.

Hughes kept in a domestic match once too.

I think Lyon is a good bowler and the change in his approach to the crease is smart, but he really needs to slow down. Mark Taylor keeps pointing it out. He keeps rushing. It's about quality not quantity. Hopefully he'll learn.

test review - 6 more test to 1st ashes test

I don't know about the other aus fans/supporters but for me i'm looking at this test/series & upcoming india tour as preparation for the ashes double headers next year, because as things stand australia are still behind england.

The victory was important, especially given the fact that another bowler broke down during the test. But then again sri lanka's batting is ageing - so its hard to make a definite judgement.

As much as Starc made a big mark with his 5-wicket haul, Lyon as much as he bowled well is not being lethal enough on this wearing last day wickets. Yes of course with a bowler down in both adelaide & this test he bowled a lot & yes he @ least look capable of probably rolling over a side on a wearing 4th/5th day wicket compared to that dud nathan haurtiz - but he needs to do it in a test before the ashes for his confidence sake.

Siddle now is clearly the go to bowler & pattinson when fit will play. Hilfy is under pressure after Starc efforts since having a potent left-arm bowler who can swing it & 90mph is always useful.

AUS fast bowling stocks once it can get rid of this injury demon is good enough to rock any batting line-up in the world. The batting remains the isse.

Watson needs to be AUS Kallis soon with the bat: Cowan/Warner need to keep improving as a pair, Hughes needs to build on return & blokes like Khawaja & Ferguson need to make big runs in first class cricket to strengthen the batting depth.

Ian Chappell had a great point on how watson should open. But you just can't stuff 4 openers into two spots.

Hughes seems reasonably comfortable at 3 his 82 was good but that could of been because Cowan failed and he basically opened with Warner.

Warne tipping Bird to make his debut, relatively good sign although he was off on his last prediction about Quiney replacing Ponting.

Based on this article seems Micky was watching some Big Bash as he was talking about finding a bowler that can hit 140km/h.

What happened to Doug Bolinger? Is he injured or he is just not in selector's radar anymore?

An educated guess would be he is not on the selectors given his non selection, but they have not come out openly & said so.
