I doubt they are saving themselves just for australia....but if they are they are being foolishly advised. obviously the ashes is priority number one, but this sri lankan team is one that england's B side should be beating (well they did I guess) and injuries can't be the excuse for fletcher this time.

they've had a really poor winter, thumped by pakistan and just scraping a draw against a poor performing indian side...now failing to beat a weak sri lankan side at home......how long can the ashes hangover continue? i think someone is going to have to bite the bullet here and say that england is in a bit of a crisis. sure, at times they've looked irresistable...but most of these times were when KP was at the crease - the new found depth of batting and bowling that english media chose to focus on in the wake of the subcontinent disaster rather than their sides poor performances, has now been exposed as being rather shallow. the need for harmison, jones and the captain to return is now looking fairly desperate.
