I hope Sri Lanka perform better then in the ODI Series.

And there is a cyclone threatening the Test match.

There have been many instances of a cyclone being announced only to know that it has passed off without hitting Chennai! So let keep up the hope!

Last evening, I talked to my friend and he said no rain yet! Will speak to relatives tonite and will post it just before the match is scheduled to start! We also have Bharat who lives in Chennai now!

When is the cyclone expected to come in that area? And I actually don't know what kind of damage a cyclone can do.

A cyclone is when you have heavy rain combined with heavy winds! It can have damaging effect on the surroundings and in some cases can even cause death! Its so powerful that normally you find trees uprooted and thrown away, etc.

I hope it does not strike Chennai! It can be devastating and can wash out all five days of the test match! Moving apart from cricketing reasons, we should pity the Chennai people. A cyclone is always bad on them!

I know a cyclone is hard, but I don't know in which category. For example the hurricane is in the highest category.

Latest News

It was been raining on Thursday night (in Chennai!). So far no rain yet on Friday morning but expected to rain later in the day. Considering that it rained last night, chances of play starting as scheduled very dim!

Thats not good news. I hope those ground staff are working overtime right now as there is only 2 hours to game time.

As the weather tells there will be no result for the first test since it's going to rain all week.

The latest not good from cricinfo.

Match State: Day 1 start delayed due to wet conditions

Good morning and welcome to cricinfo's live coverage of the Sri
Lankan tour of India, 2005-06.
Lankans are back to finish off their tour which started off early
last month, they went back after playing an ODI series and now
they are back in Indian soil and this time around it's going to be
the longer version of the game.
It's going to be a three Test series and Chennai will play host to
the lung opener.
But I am afraid that the news is not that good, Cyclone 'Baaz' has
reached land and the ground was hit by a passing shower early in
the morning and hence start will be delayed.
We will be lucky if we get some play before lunch.
All the covers are in place, it's overcast and gloomy out here, the
forecast is not promising - all in all things look ominous.

Heres the latest

OVERNIGHT rain and bad light, a prelude to a cyclonic storm hovering in the region, has delayed the start of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka today.

The Chepauk pitch and outfield were still covered at 9am (1pm AEDT), the scheduled time of the toss, and play appeared unlikely before lunch without a major change in the weather.

Both camps had not finalised their playing X1s as they awaited further word from umpires Daryl Harper and Mark Benson on the start of play.

Cyclone Baaz, which is building in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to hit the south eastern coast of India within the next 24 hours.

The heavy rain it brings could ruin the Test entirely.

Those forecasters are right, rain through out the test match. Bad luck to you Indian and Sri Lankan fans.

Man I hate this rain. Not again. Why they always pick on Chennai even though the knew it that it's gonna rain.

lol, BCCI was probably too busy with politics that it forgot its duty. When SA ODI was cancelled they should have thought about it. I mean its quite obvious for them to know that this particular cyclone will hit Chennai, and the conditions will not be favourable for any play! Instead, the whole management was busy with elections rather than changing the venue!

Is there any rule that if two continuous days are washed out, the test is abandoned? If yes, then good. Let the players get some more rest time and recuperate after their draining 11 ODI matches!

Saurav Ganguly most likely will get another chance in New Delhi.. That would be his career defining ground now. We have to see where the third test is shifted to. No rainy place please! Kolkatta would be better. If Ganguly survives till the third test, then it would be interesting to see the crowd reaction!
