Story Team India - Destination World Cup 2007 [ICC06]

To be honest Guyana didn't smash us at all! We had them under control and bowled very well! Run rates will be high considering they needed 6 an over and at 10 overs they were going at half that. Sharma was excellent and so were the spinners considering the situation. Overall an easy win and whilst playing I knew we were never going to lose this one. McGarell batted superbly and made them look better than they were...

cheers for your comments guys :)

Still.... 5th bowling option is troubling us. Yuvi, inspite of 3 wickets had eco rate of 9RPO. and 4th bowling option giving 72 in 10Overs. These might cause huge problems in crucial matches.

Well considering we should have Pathan, Kumble, Patel and Khan to choose from we have a big bowling choice. Annoyed that Tiwary didn't get a bat but hey ho he may have to sit out the first few games. Please keep your opinions on how I should go with this team and what you think may be problems in future macthes :cheers

Welcome to "Around the World", a show where we bring you all the action from the international scene. The Sri Lanka, England test matches started with the 1st Npower test match at Lords. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. It seemed to be an ok decision but only 1 of the Sri Lankan batsman ever really got going. Samaraweera hit 109 and Tharanga and Vaas, 47 and 47 not out respectively, were the only others to really chip in with a score. Sri Lanka managed to make 344 a/o in 114.5 overs. Simon Jones taking 4 wickets and Ashley Giles 3.

Samaraweera hits 109 to push Sri Lanka's score up to 344

A 150 opening partnership made England look odds on to make a lead after the first innings but good bwoling from Samaraweera, Muralitharan and Kulasekara pegged England back to eventually bowl them out for 303 in 123 overs. Strauss made 85, Trescothick got 82 but that was about it for England as only 2 other players amde a good contributing score. Samaraweera continued his great match taking 5 wickets, Murali took 3 wickets and Kulasekara 2.

Strauss gives England great start but they fail to make it into anything

After a very bad start from the Sri lankans falling to 62-4, they pulled back thanks to a Jayawardene century and a lower order Kapugedera 66 to set England 365 to win. Jayawardene made 114 and put on a 102 partnership for the 7th wicket with Kapugedera. Flintoff took 3 wickets, Jones 2 and Harmison 1 with the spinners Vaughan and Giles both taking 2 a piece.

Jayawardene plays a captains knock to push Sri Lanka close towards a victory

After the first wicket fell at 87 England never really seemed like they would make it. With only 3 half centurys and a few useful runs from other players nobody went on and produced a match winning performance. Cook top scored with 69 and both Trescothick and Strauss made scores in the 50's. Samaraweera finished off a great match for him taking four wickets and taking a total of 9 in the agme. Muralitharan also took 4 and Vaas and Kulasekara both chipped in with 1. Sri Lanka won by 40 runs and Samaraweera got Man of the Match.

I really love this new theme , great work Treva a nice intro :clap

Good update Trev showing the cricket actions happening in other places too!

India train in Jamaica ahead of the first ODI of the international season for both sides. With India winning pretty comfortable with a young Indian side against Guyana, their attention turns to the big tie against the West Indies. The Indian players have had a few days to relax and have started training at Sabina Park a day before the game. All the players were there except Virender Sehwag, who has been told to rest due to a bruised hip suffered playing volleyball yesterday. There was a slight scare for India when Sreesanth pulled up in the nets but it seems it was nothing, and was able to resume later on in the session. A full strength squad is expected to play tommorrow.

Players are looking quite refreshed after that victory , nice presentation Treva :clap

Some of them look tired :p Its better not to train hard and get tired at the time of match which is what battrick also says ;)

India have announced the squad to face West Indies in the 1st ODI. Similarly West Indies have announced their side. As expected the big names would be added back into the side that faced Guyana. But suprisingly, Virender Sehwag has been left out of the side. He was declared fit today this morning by the team physio, but Gregg Chappell has decided to leave him out. The replacements from the Guyana game are:
Chawla Out - Khan In
Tiwary Out - Tendulkar In
Uthappa Out - Ganguly In
Raina Out - Pathan In

Ganguly will be looking for a good game with his first game back after the fall out with coach Gregg Chappell. Raina is replaced although making a solid 20* in the practice game and Chawla is out even with taking 2 wickets at the expense of 7.2 an over. Tiwary is out without appearing at all in the practice match and Yuvraj Singh is considered lucky to keep his place after a poor batting and an expensive bowling performance although taking 3 wickets.

The West Indies have decided to go with a mix of youth and experience in this 1st ODI. Gayle and Ganga are set to open the innings with the 3 massively experienced players in Lara, Chanderpaul and Sarwan. Hinds, Bravo and Dwayne Smith make up the all-rounders, with the in-experienced keeper of Baugh. The two strike bowlers are particularly in-experienced with Nurse and Jeremy having only played a handfull of matches. Overall the Indian team is looking a lot stronger and will be serious favourites to win this encounter and the series.
