The conditions are overcast for most of the day with things maybe brightening up later on. The pitch is pretty even but does have a light covering of grass which could assist the seam bowlers, especially early on. The ball will swing and reverse swing with cloud cover over the ground. Boundaries will be hard to come by on this large outfield and with rain around last night it will be slow. The spinners will have trouble finding any spin and the ball will generally bounce as normal. Definatley a batters track, but maybe the cloud cover could result in the captain winning the toss and bowling first.
Brian Lara won the toss and elected to bat first. He said he thought it would move around early under the clouds, but if they could see off the new ball it would be as flat as a pancake. He said he wanted to be cautious early on and make sure we have wickets in hand once the last 15 overs comes. Rahul Dravid said he wasn't to worried about bowling first as he hoped he could get early wickets and make use of the new ball and the cloud cover. Chris Gayle and Sherwin Ganga came out to open up the innings for the West Indies. Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth opened the bowling and immediatley they both got movement through the air and off the seam. Ganga was lucky to still be there after Yuvraj Singh dropped him on 1 off the bowling of Khan. After 7.1 overs Ganga did finally go for 10 from 19 balls, getting a fine inside edge off Sreesanth through to Dhoni who took a good low catch. Lara came in early at three to try and build a good start for his team. But he was unable to hit a ball from Sreesanth that wrapped Lara on the pads. The Ball seemed to pitch outside leg and go on to hit off stump, but the umpir had no doubt to send, a dissapointed, Lara back to the pavilion for just 2. Chanderpaul came in and slowly got himself in with the score hitting 36-2 after the 1st 10 overs, and as no suprise, Dravid took the 2nd powerplay. Pathan replaced Khan at the Blue Mountains End and immediatley got the breakthrough with his 2nd ball. He dismissed Gayle, who played down the wrong line and was bowled for a steady, 18 from 33 balls. Sarwan was the next man in, and the West Indies desperatley needed a big knock from him. Sharma replaced Sreesanth and kept the scoring rate down, with it at 65-3 after 20 overs. After 21 overs the third and final powerplay was taken, and H Singh came on for Sharma. With steady scoring still going Pathan got the big wicket of Sarwan caught by Dravid at 1st slip for 25 from 49 balls. Hinds came in which lowered the scoring rate even more and at 30 overs the score laid on 97-4. Pathan bowled right through his 10 overs with a very neat spell and was replaced by Sachin Tendulkar. The run rate picked up and with 10 overs left to go, the West Indies were on 141-4. 1 ball into the 41st over Tendulkar bowled Hinds for 15 and this brought Baugh to the crease. Sreesanth came on to finish off his overs and trapped Baugh LBW for 15 off 9. Bravo came in and together with Chanderpaul who had moved onto a marvelous century, they managed to get 87 from the alst 10 overs to give their team a chance at 228-6!
Astonishing total , especially after being 65/3. This is not uncommon for India to give away the edge after geeting the opposition in trouble.Good writting skills
Brilliant recovery from the Widies, well played Chanderpaul. Good work Treva, keep up this great presentation. I got a feeling this will be a close game.....lolzzz....
From after this game it will be done like some other stories with pics and not just innings summary. I hope I can make it realistic as the graphics are obviously a little on the "hard to make look good" side . Sky Sports will be the hosts for this series but it will change from county to country
India needed 229 to win at 4.6 an over with Gambhir and Ganguly walking out to the middle. Nurse immediatley got some movement and had a pretty decent LBW shout against Gambhir, but it was turned down by the umpire. But in the 4th over and 2 balls after the 1st LBW shout, Nurse got another one to swing away from him and find the edge of the bat. It was taken at 1st slip by Hinds and Gambhir was dismissed for just 4 runs from 10 balls. Sachin Tendulkar was next in and helped steady the score with it on 40-1 after 10 overs. Powerplay 2 was immediatley taken and that prompted the 2nd wicket. Bravo got the ball to go between bat and pad of Tendulkar and hit middle stump half way up. Tendulkar had made 10 from 23 balls. The captain was next in but only made 9 runs before Smith got him out, caught at slip by Gayle, in the 17th over. Y Singh arrived at the crease with India in a bit of trouble. The turning point came when Ganguly was dropped by Gayle at slip, again from Smith. With the score on 74-3 after 20 overs the 3rd and final powerplay was taken. Ganguly then chipped in and got to his 50 from just 67 balls. Ganguly had hit 6 fours in his half century and got the score up to 120-3 from 30. With Yuvraj Singh looking comfortable he found a way to get himself out, Missing a pretty innocuous ball from Jeremy. The ball wrapped him on the pads but looked to be outside the line of off stump. The umpire didn't think so and Yuvraj had to go. Dhoni came in and right from the off started to go after the West Indian bowlers. Off his first 5 balls he had hit 2 exquisite shots for four and reached to 11. India needed 49 runs off the last 10 overs. Ganguly reached his 3 figures from 122 balls with 13 fours in 155 minutes. Ganguly and Dhoni got the runs required down to 29 from 30 balls. With 11 needed from 7 balls, Ganguly got a bit of luck, getting a top edge for four. Dhoni was on strike for last over with 7 needed. The first 3 balls went for singles. Ganguly then got a peach that just missed the stumps and went through to Baugh. 5 needed off the last 2 balls and Ganguly got a single to leave Dhoni with the last ball. With a boundary needed to win and 3 to tie Dhoni moved away to the leg side. The ball was pitched on the off stump and he swipped it away through midwicket for four. What a shot to win a fantastic game!
