West Indies in England

He's not a prospect, but he does have a chance of getting a spot, being as he still has around 8 years in him, probably.
Depending on how his body wears later on.

Ryan Sidebottom in the squad  what next?

Here's the full squad: Michael Vaughan (capt), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Andrew Flintoff, Stephen Harmison, Kevin Pietersen, Matthew Prior (wk), Monty Panesar, Liam Plunkett, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss.

wow! Is Mahmood injured or does Moores not have a very high opinion of him? If only Stu wasn't injured...

I hope Peter Moores doesn't rate the ability of Sajid Mahmood. I hope I never see him playing for England again.

Didn't see that one coming...
I remember him being a bit of a joke of a player when he played for Yorkshire but perhaps he's improved since then.
Mind you Moores got it right with Prior so I'm not going to judge just yet...

If he plays then the record of only Father-Son one test wonders will go - it was Sidebottom and his father.

Wasn't it in 2001 he played and did quite poorly?

Good pick imo. I think this recent injury crisis has shown us that England really lack depth in their bowling, whereas there are quite a number of county players that can cover us in the batting side of things. I like the pick because it brings a bit of experience to the bowling, and the ability to swing the ball with control. He had an extremely good season for Sussex last year, hopefully he can replicate some of that form in the upcoming Test match...

Yes he had one test against Pakistan, but I can't remember how he played, I can't imagine he looked that good if he hasn't played until now.

Sidebottom plays for Nottinghamshire. :p He didn't have a particularly good season last year either, but did the year before when they won the title.

His match figures in that test were 20-2-64-0. Not great, but not the worst you'll see!

Damn I got confused :p. Yea I seriously did mean the season Nottinghamshire won the championship, and he played very well that season.

sidebottom,:p, i mean he's not bad, but really, im surprised at that though, he isnt really England material, out of Notts players, I'd prefer Charlie Shreck

Sidebottom does give good variety, but let's be honest he's probably one of two that will miss out. The other being Flintoff (If not fit) or one of Colly, Bell, Strauss......

Monty should play, after all Headingley is getting more and more spin friendly, got 6 wickets there against Pakistan last Summer.

wierd cos sidebottom has only take 13 wkts this season..no exactly top form.

but the variety could be nice.

Prior was in poor form before the first test... Not that I agree with the selection. Shreck or Onions would have been much better choices in my opinion, but I suppose Left-arm seam gives a bit of variety and should be pretty reliable.

I think that if we secure the series victory with a game to spare we should play Rashid. I know people say he is not ready but Warne had barely played First Class cricket before his first test. If he is mentally ready now then I say introduce him.

I prefer we pick on ability to take wickets, not cos tey give variety..

otherwise you'd pick:

1 Right arm fast
1 Left arm fast
1 offspinner
1 legspinner
1 Slow left authodox

if the best 4 bowlers are right armer's then they should play.
