West Indies tour of India Dec-2019

It is going to be tough to play both Kuldeep and Chahal together often, if either of them do not improve their batting dramatically to be able to be called a "bowling allrounder". Or India need to find some pacers who can also bat. We have to be able to bat until at least No. 8 (if not No.10) in all formats. Kuldeep, Chahal, Shami and Bumrah will make our batting only till No. 7.

KulCha cant exist in tandem for too long. Hope we find better leggie options in the future, who can also bat decently.

It is not necessary. Not with our template. I keep going back to that S/F of the WC. The planning with the middle order was diabolical for sure, but, it was Chahal's spell that cost us that S/F.

I keep saying it- The extra batsman will win you that one game in 100 but the extra bowler will bowl you 1000 overs over 100 games.

My 100% opinion is-

Rahul
Rohit
Kohli
Iyer
Pant
Pandya
Jadeja
Bhuvneshwar
Kuldeep/Chahal
Shami
Bumrah

Jadeja is a proper batter in my book now and he could even bat 6 ahead of Pandya. This is my side.

If Bhuvi is fit, I still don't see any reason to separate Kuldeep and Chahal. They are the reason we have been so successful in the middle overs since the departure of Ashwin and Jadeja. They have picked wickets everywhere we toured since that champions trophy final loss against Pakistan. Yes Chahal had an off day in that semi-final but that is definitely not the reason we lost that game. It was our usual problem which is our top order batting well throughout the tournament and failing in the most important game to expose the match-practice less middle order against a gun bowling line-up.

The next 50 Over WC is in India so we need a proper backup spinner alongside Kuldeep. Jadeja provides a better package overall but is quite predictable and teams over the years have found a way to dealt with him and can turn out to be a defensive option.

Having following domestic cricket for years the bowler that can be perfect ploy for Kuldeep is Shreyas Gopal from Karnataka , I seriously he gets a chance quite handy with the bat too if needed.

And coming to the WC semifinals I still can't fathom the fact on those conditions we did not play Mohammed Shami who only played 4 matches and picked up 14 wickets. That wicket demanded three proper fast bowlers but instead an half fit Bhuvi ,Bumrah and Panday were the seamers.

Shami has an outstanding ODI record for India infact he is fastest Indian to 100 ODI wickets and 8th Overall in the list picks wickets in the middle orders and has a better SR than most.

Interesting Fact - After Shami its Bumrah who is on that list of 100 wickets with former is 56 innings and the latter in 57 matches and Kuldeep has 99 wickets in 55 games needs more to join the list.

This is the thing that still hurts me. I just don't have any explanation for this and I just can't figure it out why did we play an unfit Bhuvi ahead of an in-form Shami who was looking pretty mean and lethal while bowling throughout the tournament. Another thing is I just don't know why didn't we play Kuldeep Yadav in that Semi-final. I think people will say it was our batting but actually the bowling cost us the game.

Are West Indies going to go home with a series win as a Christmas gift for them ?

What a victory that was !! Rohit out, Rahul out, Kohli out, match in the hands of the opposition and India came out as winners. I hope that Shardul hasn't made his career because of his batting. :p

Absolutely pumped to see this victory !! :cheers

One thing that I liked from this series is how WI pushed India in every single match. They made India play out of their comfort zone and actually hit more boundaries in T20 as we saw in the last T20 match.

One thing that I did not like from this series and in fact throughout this home season is our fielding. It feels like our fielding has gone downhill both ground fielding and catching.

Thanks to Jadeja for advocating what I have been weeping my eyes out about for the past 3 years.

That time has come to promote Jadeja to 6/7 and have Pandya in the side as well at 6/7. 3 quicks and one wrist spinner.

I have felt the following things about this series.

  1. India's batting is a lot more stronger than what they actually perform and they can improve on it and become a side even better than England in limited overs Cricket batting-wise
  2. No matter who the bowlers are they would continue to win them matches for India as long as very carry this approach forward with their bowling
  3. The Indian fielding have been an issue for quite a while now and this heads back to the World Cup Semifinal where they fielded poorly.
  4. KL Rahul has to be India's go to man as an opener and he would surely help in changing the approach at top of the order with Indian batting line-up.
  5. Kuldeep and Chahal needs to play together as soon as possible for India to succeed as a bowling unit in middle overs in limited overs Cricket.
  6. For some reason Kohli looks a lot more pumped up than before in this series and is actually performing better with this approach and is enjoying his game right now than before.
  7. Shai Hope has been in an incredible form and would go on to become a great player for the West Indies infact I would give him the Captaincy once Pollard goes away.
  8. Shimron Hetmyer is a special talent and is West Indies X-factor player, he would become one of the greatest hitters of the Cricket ball in the years to come.
  9. Sheldon Cottrell has to be an all condition bowler for the West Indies.
  10. West Indies has a lot of potential and would surely go on to become one of the best sides in the World Cricket once again in the years to come, provided that they try and keep the politics and poor treatment of players by the West Indies cricket board itself away from the game.
