Zimbabwe Tour of West Indies 2010

Am just as disappointed here too, but why Smith? How easily we forget, on the last tour to Australia Smith was the second leading runs scorer behind Pollard (who was just as guilty) with 130 in 5 matches and the second best average as well of 43! Sure he did crap and no excuses for it, but there seems to be a number of issues that can be pointed out, the lineup, Pollard and Smith bats after Deonarine? Did we not see how that worked in Australia, yet they pursue with the same batting order. How did Deonarine bowl 8 overs @ 5.87? What was wrong with Gayle himself that he did not bowl? Barath batted as if it was his return "Test" playing to get himself back in form 50 from 96, that was a waste!! But I excuse him, it's his first ODI, we hell, no excuses bat like you belong there, period.
Ok so you looking for someone to hang by the balls, you have chosen, Smith I respect that, I choose Mr. Denesh Ramdin, in Australia from 5 matches he managed only 65 runs, yes we can carry on and say they were playing the best side in the world, fine but from 73 ODIs he averages 19.35 and gone past 50 only "twice", he goes, replacement with the gloves, Fletcher!

yeah Ramdin blows

Chris Fayle should resign asap, either Chanders or Sarwan (when he returns) should be made the captain.

Well played zimbabwe, they really should be back into the test fold!

If they were to move in the inevitable direction of two tiers or at least two groups of teams as 10 teams is unworkable and the divide is too great. New Zealand and West Indies are no great shakes, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh aren't consistent enough within a Test let alone series although Pakistan aren't exactly proving much better at the moment.

Results between struggling sides shouldn't be used to call for a Test return for the zimmers. Two tiers would aid that return, but I reckon the ICC are too stuck in the ancient past and the only thing that they respond to is money-spinning, TV, and the threats that boards might withdraw from ICC or something that jeopardises the big god that is ? (or more likely $)

If you've got 8 blokes past no. 3 who can't bat, it's odd to single out no. 8. Their best team would probably be as good as it has been for 10-15 years, but their apparent lack of depth is of equal magnitude. With Sarwan and Bravo out of the side, they are royally boned. Even the difference between a guy like Marlon Samuels and the guys they're picking now is huge. So much so that I really suspect they are picking the wrong players. They're recycling a lot of these guys; there must be more worth seeing than this.

I think they should just push Smith up the order, rather than dropping him. He did reasonably well in Australia because he came in with plenty of time to spare, so had plenty of balls left to face. Why not give him a go at number 6 or something, where he can have a bit of time to play himself in, before he has to just bash it out of the ground. It might work.

The reason I am after Smith is because he went out there and just hacked at the ball. He didn't even try to play a proper shot or at least get a run of a ball. For a guy who is in the team to be a finisher he didn't even come close to doing that, he is in the team for that exact reason. Look at the role that Styris played against the Aussies or Hopes a few times against the WI, thats the role Smith is there for.
As for Ramdin yea he is crap really, either give Andre a proper shot and a few games in a row to settle him self and show if he is capable of performing. Like you said Ramdin has played 73 matches but crossed 50 twice while Andre has played 11 and already did that twice.

If the selectors are smart they will bring back Sarwan and bring him in for Ramdin and play Fletcher as a WK. Sammy will probably come in for Smith.

My point exactly, both Smith and Pollard showed that they can play themselves into an inning and not just look to smash balls out of the ground (which they can do), why not move them up the order and let them feel they have time and play from there.

How come Nash is not considered to bring some stability to the ODI side? He is not the fastest guy around but he is definitely better than some of these hacks in the current side.

He'll strengthen the squad. A better player than his current fallows.

No idea man, They took the guy to Australia for the ODIs and had him run drinks while Simmons failed in just about every match. Could have given the guy a chance at least, he couldn't have done much worse the Simmons.

Same thing goes for Tonge, the guy was brought there and never played a match. If the series was already lost then at least he should have got one match instead of collecting dust on the sidelines.

Dare added 3 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...

What it got to do with Chris and his captaincy. Chanderpaul doesn't want the captaincy and he should not be considered for it because he doesn't need any extra pressure on top of being the guy that carries the middle order.

Sarwan cant stay healthy for long enough to captain the team, Chris is the best man available.

I think a resignation of any sort right now just fans the flames. It's not going to make their worst players suddenly gain quality.

Chris isn't going to quit. I don't think he is that kind of guy, he will take the challenge on he just needs his players to step up and a few of the back from injuries will help.
