All Time ODI Cricket Draft <---Shravis uppp

Well, i'm going to go ahead and make a pick, we can decide where to go from here.

Shaun Pollock

Pollock is one of the finest pace bowlers to have ever graced the limited-overs arena. His nagging line and length, precise accuracy and dangerous pace caused trouble to batsman world over. He could swing the ball a mile and could move it off the seam too - allowing him to bowl well in all conditions. This is seen in his statistics - in his 300+ match career, Pollock has picked up an astonishing 393 wickets at an average of just 24. What is amazing is his economy rate of just 3.79/over, an absolutely critical factor in the ODI format.
His batting is handy too. His aggressive style with the willow has earned him 3500 ODI runs down the order, with 14 critical 50s and a century. He gets them at a fair clip as well, with a strike rate of 87.

An amazing allrounder to have, welcome Shaun Pollock!

Hey, it's not my turn. We're in Round 3. It's Stinky's turn. The first post hasn't been updated. Harishan and Howsie missed their Round 2 picks.

Mine either :p Shaun Pollock was one option though - well done Cricketman. Who let you in?? :D

hmmmm, I'm torn on two.

but in keeping with my pick of jayasuriya as an innovator I will take (None of this will be reflected in any simulation of course, but what the hell)

Dean Jones

Unlike Viv, who was just an aggressor all the time, Dean Jones consiously changed the way ODI cricket was played. He sprinted the singles and understood the importance of quick fielding in the deep. Perhaps most notable was how he attacked fast bowlers, using their pace to get boundaries and coming down the wicket to them, which in those days would be considered suicidal. Better ODI average than his test average, one of the first real specialists.

OH yeah Deano. My first ever favourite player. That dancing down the wicket you mentioned - I still do that when I play :laugh

Deano was my next pick but in a way, I'm happy Stinky took him because I was torn between about 3 players. Good to have part of the decision made for me.

He was one of my picks down the track :(

IMO we should get rid of the rule saying we can only have four players per nation. It mean's we might not pick all of the best players.

Nah, it's a good rule. Best players will still be selected. There are 8 teams...

Shane Warne

While we'll never be able to find a common consensus to who is cricket's greatest spinner, no one can say that Shane Warne hasn't been one of the best. Sadly, a drugs ban in 2003 meant an end to his ODI career, but not to a solid record in the limited overs game. With a healthy strike-rate of 36 and 293 wickets, he helped Australia to the 1999 World Cup title, and always brought his best to the big games.

Sir Richard Hadlee

Sir Richard Hadlee is the 3rd 'played in whites' era player and 2nd knight to make my team :p - a man who carried New Zealand cricket on his back. Sir Richard took 158 wickets @ 21.56 in ODI cricket and while that wicket tally doesn't match the totals of today's modern day players, he can't be denied as a quality bowler just because his era didn't emphasise ODI cricket. I mean the man also has 431 Test wickets @ 22. Obviously he can bowl!

Hadlee's a man who I heard of in the late 80s as the thorn in every Aussie's side - still the man to look out for even in his late 30s. Typically, he could swing the new ball, get movement off the deck and early in his career had more than enough pace, in fact you'd call him quick. By the end of his long career, he'd lost a bit of speed, but that had been replaced with canniness.

Reason b for picking him is that Hadlee was also a very good lower order batsman. I didn't want to miss out on a high quality bowling allrounder as after Akram, Pollock and Hadlee it starts getting a bit thin when you need a guy to give you high class bowling while being a useful threat batting at #8 and that's crucial to the balance of my side. Now I've got a bowler who can bat to go with my batsman who can bowl if needed (Sir Viv).

And BTW, I'm not going to be picking just old guys for the rest of the way - don't worry :laugh
