Australia Tour Of India 2012/13

There are a few reports emerging that it wasn't really about the task they were set; more about overall attitude and commitment. Seems more plausible.

Hmm, after reading more about the whole issue, I feel as though the right decision was made while keeping a long term goal of cohesiveness and cooperation in mind. That being said, only Clarke and Pattinson are genuinely world class in the Australian team. Take one of them out and you make a massive dent in the team's ability to win. While this concern is somewhat alleviated in Australia as we saw in the 3rd test South Africa where Johnson and Starc took wickets, it isn't as easy a crack to paper over outside Australia.

Hilfenhaus just had a very good FC match vs Queensland and he was very successful last time around in India. He was easily the best bowler from both sides.

All this will be is yet another distraction/scapegoat for deluded Aussie fans who want to blame anything and everything (apart from the performances themselves) for the losses. Must be selectors, coaches, pitches, feng shui in the dressing room - whatever...I'm over it

As an AUS supporter i'm not distracted by this, the performances of the players obviously need bashing since it has not been good enough. But after all the madness, this is like the worst thing that could happen, since it means AUS are even more likely to get their first test series whitewash since 1969/70.

That is a galling statistic.

However they players don't pick themselves, they have selectors decide the final XI's. Since the dominant era ended after the 2007 Ashes & World Cup wins, the last two selection panels lead by Andrew Hilditch & John Inverarity have gutted AUS potentially progress across all formats - far more than the players performance on the field.

This is hardcore fact of the past 6 years of post McWarne era Australia.

Indeed. With Bird injured out of tour i don't know why a replacement like Hilfy or Cutting wasn't called up. Once more the rationale behind AUS selectors thinking, must be heavily questioned.

So not doing the "homework" disrespected the coach and they get axed. To me that sound stupid and reasonable at the same time.

Didn't expect this much response to something so trivial that we won't even remember in a couple weeks. Aus rugby players get suspended or demoted for breaking team protocol and having a beer on the weekend all the time. I don't agree with it, but that's just how it is.

If it was the Indian team, the player's careers would probably be all but over, never to be picked again. England and you'd have Swanny and the boys going behind your back undermining you and creating controversy until you retire. Sri Lanka you'd be forced to sign a contract for a tenth of the pay etc.

Still a solid XI we'll be taking into this test and being Aussies, expect them to lift now that their backs are against the wall and just do what we went there for, play some tweaking cricket.

Just watched some of the Clarke interview now. Part of me wonders if this is a storm in a teacup that's been blown out of proportion but then on the other hand I was very impressed with how he spoke.

It seems that of all the Test playing nations, traditions and 'honour' is something that appeals to the Aussies more than anyone else. As vice captain Watson should have gone along with it, even if his heart wasn't really in it. We've all had to do stuff against our will when at work but you just get on with it.

I think if more people watched the clips and fewer either reacted to headlines or quotes from ex-players, it would be a less inflammatory situation. A lot of is spelled out really clearly in the first hand, but lost in news articles. The team's performance and methods of improving it do concern me. The last thing I care about is which former England player is using it as a vehicle to stay relevant.

Isn't this the second time he is getting hit on his knee? He did have a knee injury before once too, right?

Couple of times in the IPL, couple of times fielding at short leg, so yeah, he's had his fair share of knee injuries...

It seems like it was a lot of things that built up that pissed of clarke.

Tardiness, Overweight,
