Australia Tour Of India 2012/13

RIP AUSTRALIA seriously i am so disappointed

"Amazing 4 Aussie players banned for not doing their homework. I thought letting them play in the next test would be punishment enough" - Andrew Flintoff

:D

I think this fiasco has really taken the attention off the selectors.

I highly doubt Aus will win with Smith playing. The team is most likely going to be

Watson, Patto, Dohery/Maxwell, Wade OUT. Smith, Starc, Lyon, Haddin in.

Yes they may have doherty in for smith but that still is a problem. They called Haddin into the squad why not bring O'Keefe? Selection still makes no sense after all this.

I dunno why australia are so steadfast about sticking to players from their initial squad. I still think promoting watson to opener was a mistake and it was this attitude that lead to that when they dropped hughes but refused to call another opener over to the ashes tour.

if you ditch 4 players you're going to need more players.

Watson went to the 2009 Ashes as back-up opener option given the success he was having opening in ODI cricket. So in the 09 series their was no reason to call up other players.

Right now of course its dumb, since that means they have to play someone like Steve Smith @ # 5, which will easily make him the worst person to bat @ # 5 since world war 2.

Meh...Steve Smith has showed as much potential with the bat as anyone else in Shield cricket in recent times. His 2009/10 season of 772 runs @ 77.2 is about the only non-Phil Hughes season of note by a young player in the last few years. (I've been looking at Shield stats in the last couple of days to distract me...:D)
By comparison: Dave Warner scored 632 FC runs @ 63.2 in 11/12, Chris Lynn scored 641 FC runs @ 53.41 in 10/11, Usman Khawaja scored 698 FC runs @ 63.45 in 09/10. Those are the only guys who've averaged over 50, while being 25 years of age or less.

Guys like Alex Doolan, Liam Davis, Peter Forrest, Ed Cowan, George Bailey, Mark Cosgrove, Michael Klinger and Rob Quiney have had a decent season or 2 in their late 20s (but ONLY a couple each - none is doing it year in, year out). It's opened my eyes to the lack of batting talent in Aussie cricket.

And it seems like common sense is going to prevail: Wade and Maxwell look like the 2 that will be left out. Shoehorning an injured Wade in, when Haddin has just flown over would have been a bit silly, and Maxwell needs another couple of years in first class cricket before he gets near this team IMHO.

Exactly the clear decline of batting talent in AUS in recent years makes me question Smith shield stats. We all have seen Smith on the international stage - he has been woeful.

If clearly more talented batsmen in Hughes, Khawaja & Marsh have had their struggles in the test arena - one has to have a extreme cringe worthy feeling or at a bear mimimum, a strong sense of concern at what Smith would do if he plays in this test again.

I don't think performing in shield can directly be applied to tests.

Ponting averaged 100 + in shield and did extremely poorly.

Clarke I remember averaged in the 30s and look at him now.

Trust the rain to come along and rescue India :facepalm Where was it in the first test? Or the second? Ridiculous.

It's funny that there was no signs of rain here for a long time till today. :P. Anyways bright sun predicted for the rest of four days!

Undoubtely the best day for Australia on tour. Australia may have avoided whitewash here.

Dont say that. India can still wrap up the test in 4 days. We did it last game.

I prays Australia to go to bat tomorrow as I would not be able to see the match tomorrow as it's a working day.Any way the australia would be all out by maximum saturday afternoon and so I could enjoy the Indians batting on saturday and sunday :lol:lol:lol
