i think that advantage is factored in NRR.

No, it is not.
The factor will come into play, on a future date, should India and England, say clash again in the SF or the final and the match is a tie again.

In such a case, England will win by virtue of having lost less wickets than India in the group game.

Let's not elide the fact that Chawla, though bleeding runs copiously, did take the wicket of Bresnan at a very crucial juncture of the game. Had Bresnan, who was just starting to look dangerous, been at the crease in the last over, there was every possiblity of things turning the other way round.

Ravichandran Ashwin should have played instead of Piyush Chawla. Seems like MSD wanted to prove his detractors wrong by selecting PC and showing as to how important can he be to Team India.

Chawla in the 49th over was truly poor marshalling of resources by MSD. Yuvraj should have done it. Also , a lot of ppl are celebrating in Bangalore as though we have beaten them.
Tbh, it was a game that we should have won comfortably. Our stupid bowling has given away a lot here. Banlga posting 286, now England 338, what should the fans expect out of the Dutch game-359 ?:mad

Given that we have such a strong batting line-up, MSD should possibly try out chasing in the next few games.

Why would you give it to a part timer? And Yuvraj was so bad today. I would have trusted my specialist 100x more than a part timer like Yuvraj. Piyush let us down, not Dhoni.

Maybe they are celebrating because we didn't lose. Or that it was such a fantastic game of cricket. Remember that they were 280 odd for 2 with only a required RR of 6.5ish. I still can't get over Zaheer's absolutely brilliant spell...amazing.

I would drop a batsman and try to play the extra bowler. Nehra is the obvious choice once fit. Drop Piyush too, get Ashwin in for a crack. Our next game is against either Ireland or the Dutch so it should be good to try out different combination. Twice our top 3 batsman alone have posted close to 250 now. We don't need to bat all the way down to 10. Tough to drop Yusuf though for me.

Feel sad for Sachin that his hundred was put to shade by all these events.

I don't. Simply because, it was not his first century and neither was this match his last. I do feel bad for Strauss whose valiant effort has gone down in vain.

And the MOM was rightly given to Strauss.

Just came here to say that "England are never ever gonna beat India in India" ! This was their best chance and they screwed it up . And someone please teach Strauss when to take the Batting PPs . And if someone does happen to live in bangalore , please take this request : "Just fracture Matt Prior's thigh bones that keeps him out for 100 days atleast" .. you ll handsomely rewarded with money deposited in the Swiss Bank .

Chawla is receiving too much flak for his under-performance. How could Dhoni have foreseen that a bowler, who was excellent in the warm up games, would not play upto his potential here? And, to be fair to Chawla, the entire Indian bowling attack bit the dust today. Even Zaheer, the man who brought us back to the match, was pretty expensive in his first two spells. Singling out someone is just wrong when a collective failure has taken place.

I reckon Bresnan should have got MotM today. He did some good late hitting and taking 5-48 on that track when the nearest economical bowler was Harbhajan at 5.80, highlights how well he did. Yes Strauss and Sachin batted well, but to get figures like that really does show a class performance on a pitch like that.

Also, anyone else reckon Jimmy is going to be struggling for his place with Broad back and fit for the next match?

I was gonna go for a 4 way tie :p. Sachin-Strauss-Zaheer-Bres

No, superover will take place in such circumstances.

under performance in the 49th over? When we were at such a crucial stage and needed an economical over he leaked 2 sixes. He deserves any and all flack imo. This is international cricket, there is no room for sympathy here. I agree, I would have played him too at the start of the match, but looking forward I would think twice before writing Chawla's name on the team sheet.

We can still go 2-2- Zak n Nehra along with Harbhajan and Ashwin.

Man ! Flawed selection of the World Cup team should not let us down in the future. We needed Pragyan Ojha here. :yes

Nope. We needed someone like you here since well you have stated that you'd do a better job than the current set up.
