ICCCT2006: Group A

Hopefully Harmison never plays an ODI ever again. Honestly, Dominic Cork could still a better job.

Yeah reckon he should just concentrate on tests, he has not got the displicne for ODIs.

Harmy, Hoggy and Panesar. Your three finest test bowlers, all liabilities in ODIs. Maybe even Jones too, his ODI stats aren't much.
But to be fair, Panesar hasn't been tried and Jones has improved a lot.
But you guys need more OD specialists, such as Goughy and Jon Lewis.

Mahmood, now theres a talent! Saw him bowl a whole spell today, brilliant when he gets it right. And nice to see Jimmy A back!!

Here's my team for the experimental match against the West Indies.

1. Andrew Strauss
2. Ian Bell
3. Paul Collingwood
4. Kevin Pietersen
5. Andrew Flintoff (captain)
6. Jamie Dalrymple
7. Michael Yardy
8. Chris Read (wicket keeper)
9. Sajid Mahmood
10. Jon Lewis
11. James Anderson

Jamie Dalrymple has finally convinced me he deserves his place.

Hahaha England thrashed!

Good to see Martyn in form. Well done Aussies.

England down and out!

Harmison is not an ODI bowler. They need him out of the side. Why Lewis who hasn't put a foot wrong yet isn't in there I will never know.

England lost the match in their poor batting performance from their middle order though.

If SI beat WI and then Australia and England beat WI, England, Australia and WI will all be level on points at the end of the group so technically we are not out yet. ;)

Geez I thought we were so screwed after that opening partnership. Non of our bowlers looked threatening. We were very lucky not to have 250+ put on us, but in saying that good comeback by our bowlers.

Watson really has developed a habit of taking wickets when we need them, Johnson them came good again, really took care of KP with that bouncer then the wicket.
McGrath didn't look too good early on, probably need to open with him instead of Bracken and let him get his confidence back.

I would keep Harmson permanently in the team, but next match I will certainly select Lewis ahead of him. Harmison once said that when he was on tour away he was usually homesick and nostalgic and it appears that it is creeping in again. Mahmood and Anderson were impressive and I like the look of Mahmood's bowling. He certainly has improved a lot and I feel is a more than able replacement for Jones in the Ashes.

Once England have Trescothick, Vaughan (despite his poor record, at least he can keep a solid defence and rotate the strike over) and Jones back in the VB Series and WC, I reckon they will fair much better than in the recent matches.

That is still a possibility, but I reckon England will want to head down to Australia early and spend some more time here.

I'm not taking too much from this win. I'd take more from a win against more competent opposition. Like say Zimbabwe...

Oooo the Ashes will be fun, I can see Harmison becoming the next Nantine Hayward. Or was he was known amongst the Aussie fans, Wayward Hayward :D:D:D

This is a very possible situation. If India beat Australia (Which would be a little surprising, but then again it could very well happen, and West Indies beat England (probable) then Australia won't make the cut.

So basicly, this Australia/India game an almost be treated like a quarter final. It should decide who goes through.

So, comming up.

Tue 24 7th Match - South Africa v Sri Lanka
Must win for South Africa or they will be out! Doesn't matter for Sri Lanka, 2 wins and they have the highest NRR so it would take something unbelieveable to put them at third on the table.
I predict, Sri Lanka to win

Wed 25 8th Match - New Zealand v Pakistan
Must win for New Zealand or they will be out! Pakistan will want to win to get themselves a place in the finals.
I predict, New Zealand to win, though it is probably the toughest to call. Basicly only because of Pakistan missing players

Thu 26 9th Match - India v West Indies
Both with 1 win, so this game shouldn't be too important. India would want to win or else they may miss the cut with Australia and the West Indies going through. WI will be underdogs, but if they were to beat India then it would make India need to beat Australia.
I predict, India to win

Fri 27 10th Match - Pakistan v South Africa
If Pakistan win against NZ this match won't matter for them, if SA lose to Sri Lanka this match won't matter for them either. If Pakistan lose against NZ this match will be very important and they will need a good run rate.
I predict, South Africa to win, another toughie, this group is hard to pick. Same reason as before, Pakistan missing players. They did get the win early on, but having no Inzamam, Akhtar and Asif must show up somewhere. Surely!

Sat 28 11th Match - England v West Indies
Should be a easy win for West Indies. Though, if they were to lose it they could throw away a chance at the top 4.
I predict, West Indies to win

Sun 29 12th Match - India v Australia
Probably going to be the most important game, either both sides or just Australia will be fighting for a place in the top 4. Could come down to Australia needing a high run rate to be above the West Indies if they were to lose.
I predict, Australia to win

So as you can see, a lot of exciting cricket still to come. It is very close now. Each game will be pretty important. Lots of key matches. England are the only team totally out of it so far

Can we talk about the pitches ?

What the **** [ h e l l ] has BCCI done with its pitches ?

Substandard to the core !
Come on,we really don't want any low scoring affairs.
It was okay for the first two matches.
But even now ?
And you can't really blame the teams for not performing.
How often have 4-5 teams started scoring low at the same time ?

Why do you feel low-scoring matches can't be fun? Why should it be batsman dominated? Cricket isn't only about runs. It is about taking wickets, tight match-winning spells and rivalries between batter and bowler too y'know. It isn't just a sprt where the ball has to dissapear everywhere.
If you call these pitches substandard, then every pitch which has leaked 325+ should be substandard too.
I am personally enjoying this series a lot. With all the batting beauties in the last 2-3 years, we have found the cream of the crop bowling wise. Now it's time for the batters, time for the boys to be seperated from the men batting wise.

I completley agree Zorax. I've seen far too many Tests and ODI's where the only thing that takes place is the figure bashing of bowlers. It makes a healthy change for a tournament to be dominated with ball rather than bat.

No-one has spotted the flaw in that yet...

SL are not in our group. But replace SL with India and it is right. :D

India at home is a real worry, I'd expect them to beat the Windies and they could well beat us if we play like we did against the English. Best case for us would be Windies beating India or England beating the Windies, that way we only have to win our final game instead of worrying about run rate.
