India tour of England 2018

I personally think we've been fortunate with the wickets we've got! I thought Malan's was a terrible decision.

Given the wicket, England should've been just 2 or 3 down today. The wickets were due to the pressure applied in the post-lunch session. As we speak, Stokes out to a really soft dismissal. He looks uncharacteristically out of place with the bat since his return. Its slightly saddening.

Now we can really look to rub it in and get a couple more here. This could be the difference between a 280-300 score and a 350 target. Someone has to run through the lower order here.

UPDATE: You have the opposition 250/7 and in comes Pandya to bowl with 40 minutes left in the day. Not bright captaincy, I must say.

Shami has been the best bowler for India so far. Ashwin has bowled with amazing control and hasn't tried to do too much with variations. Just trying to keep things simple which is exactly what he needs to do. I have also liked the way Ishant has bowled today. Yes, he has been again unlucky in terms of wicket but he has bowled well. Umesh has been hot and cold and mostly cold throughout the day. I see Bumrah coming in straight away for the 2nd test if Umesh doesn't do anything special in the second inning.[DOUBLEPOST=1533142127][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think he is just keeping fast bowlers fresh for the second new ball which is due in 2 overs.

I love how everyone in world cricket is too scared to call Kohli a pathetic captain/leader!

I did call that out. Its atrocious captaincy. Even if it is for the new ball, we have 3 frontline seamers and both Ishant and Umesh have`nt bowled for a while. Why not give them an over each before the new ball. Its not like Hardik has set the world on fire today. If England get to 310/7 tonight, it would have been their day.

England have enough batting to get to 400 from here if we do not get a wicket or two tonight. We`ve let it drift since Stokes's wicket.

Talking about the guys on TV.

Broad at point used to be a real option for the number 7 and 8 spots, shame he has been reduced to becoming such a comical figure with the bat.

Finally since 2007/8 and the 2010 Durban test, we have a spinner helping out our seamers overseas. If you look at all tests since the disastrous tours of 2011/12, the seamers have very often had the opposition at 200/5 or 6 but never had the support of a spinner. Lets hope this tour is to AShwin what the 2003 Australia tour was for Kumble.

Shami should be bowling to Anderson here. Ishant is a little too short for the tailenders. It looks good but doesn't get you too many wickets.

Yes, I have really liked the way he has bowled today. He showed glimpses of this in South Africa but today he has been spot on. Hardly any loose balls and kept it tight all the time.

England missed a trick here by not putting India in for 3-4 overs. They aren't getting very many from here anyway![DOUBLEPOST=1533145031][/DOUBLEPOST]

What I liked today was the pace he bowled at. Slow and always looking for wickets.

Well, that was a roller coaster ride of a day which has luckily ended up in India's favor. 285/9 at the end of Day 1 is easily something that India would've taken at the start. The run-out of Root by Kohli turned the day around for India and Ashwin has given us enough hope in a day of an overseas test than he has ever given us in any overseas tour before. It was a bold move to play him ahead of Kuldeep, who triggered panic in England's dressing room and who possessed the leg spin variety, which is the current hot shot variety in any form of cricket. But as I always felt, Ashwin with his experience (including his much recent county experience with Worcestershire) and his solid batting skills will be a much superior option than Kuldeep. And so far, he has proved it right.

Hope we can clean England up early tomorrow (and below 300) and get our batting going. Our batting tomorrow might not only define the result of this match but possibly the result of this series. Fingers crossed!

I personally would've played Kuldeep ahead of both the other spinners in 3 particular circumstances- 1) BK was playing 2) It was a green top with overheads 3) I was playing 6 batters, a keeper, 3 quicks and 1 spinner.

Once a surface is a bit dry and the sun is beating down the other two spinners are well and truly in the game with more control and batting ability to boot. Again, I would have 100% played anyone ahead of Pandya. A specialist bowler or batsman. He is just being played on the basis of his description at the moment. I don't think he is justifying his limited overs spot, let alone tests. But then, when Dhawan is being played ahead of Pujara, what can you say? We have become used to such selection. Under any other skipper, this side would have won in Africa and been red hot favs against this English side even in England, specially considering the weather.

Pujara most likely returns in the next test.once again Root not convert his 50 into 100, his 12the appearance . Vs India all 50.

213/3
285 / 9

According to indian expert, DHAWAN and Pandya makes runs in test matches away from India regardless of condition and bowling, they both retains in the second test as well
