Well deserved win for Sri Lanka. Please do not misunderstand me. I fully admit that Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly have been great players, but they are old, really old now. I think it is pretty selfish of them to continue playing and preventing the next generation from getting the international exposure they need in test cricket. (Same applies to Jayasuriya)

It is always better to leave with your head held high than having people asking for you to retire. Like I said even if the youngsters had lost this series, one could take some positives from the fact that they had learnt a lot from this and the experience would help in the next tour of SL.

Badrinath called up to replace injured Sachin! Finally! I wish Dhoni would play him ahead of Yuvraj, but I can't see that happening, but a tleast he gets the call up.

Edit - not 100% as of yet, but my word, if they don't select him now, all hell should just break loose.

There's no need to read too much into this is series loss. Sri Lanka were always red hot favorites in their own backyard. It was just a horrible coincidence that everyone in the Fab 4 was out of form at the same time. However, Kumble does need to be dropped. He is just completely useless. Bring in Ojha or Chawla. The problem then becomes, will Dhoni become captain in test cricket as well? Because, nobody else is going to want captaincy except Gambhir and Sehwag. Gambhir is still a little young (the new Gambhir). Sehwag is too brash to be made captain and would flop. .Mob and Cricketman, I'm sorry, but IMO it has to be Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

m_Vaughan, you can't just replace 4 players all at once or say oh, we'll drop 2 now and 2 next series so it won't look so suspicious. As much as we would like to be, we aren't the CIA.

I agree with you, again meaning no disrespect to any Indian fans, but I did pose that same question to .Mob and Cricketman a few post back, when is it time to walk away and give the young players their chance. I guess with Tendulkar it is a personal milestone, too not only break Brian Lara's record for most test runs, but it will also give him the record for both ODI and Test. The rest of the guys, it could not be an issue of money, since they are making so much in the IPL. So the question is, do they move on their own, or will it take anyother series and another failure to then have them move on their own or by their board.

I think they should move on themselves, at least I think Dravid and Laxman will when they feel the time is right, I don't know about the other guys. But again, I feel they should realise themselves and not wait to be dropped, that would be very sad.

Shrav, I haven't got a problem with Dhoni at all, now that I've realised that he is our best wicketkeeper batsman, and his captaincy isn't half bad either.

Just look at what Vaughan did. He knew he was in a disastrous run of form and he wasn't getting any younger so he resigned from the captaincy so the ECB would have reason to drop him. He went out with dignity and passed the captaincy on to a very worthy candidate who's just won his fist Test in charge.

I don't think Dravid should retire yet but Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly shoudl definitely hang up their boots.

Its difficult, as has been said, to replace 3-4 batsmen who have been such a success at test match level. I would probably look to try someone such as Badrinath since his amount of runs should be rewarded with a debut.

Trust me evo, it's never going to be easy going with Ganguly. He won't retire. He'll play until he's dropped. He doesn't have any shame. He's stone hearted when it comes to cricket and that's probably what made him a good captain but he won't leave when you want him to, even when he knows his time's up. With Sachin, it's not the form, but the recurring injuries that bother me. A player will never be able to take Sachin's place until he is dropped or he retires. I say, give Sachin 2 more test series' in which he has to prove that he is able to play without getting injured. As for Dravid and Laxman, well, they were the only two that saved us some grace in the last innings.

Anyway, every batsman in that test team has to go, except Gambhir.

Yes, this includes Sehwag - he's a one time thing, like Afridi.

And Dhoni needs to come back, because Patel didn't look much better than Karthik (although I think Patel did hang on to the catches)
